Scan to Me

[edit] Scan to Me
The "Scan to Me" functionality on many MFPs (Multi Function Printer/Product/Peripheral) these days allow the IT department easily to configure MFPs to restrict users only to scan to its own e-mail account using Active Directory.
This feature is used along with that IT departments have some security concerns.
• Will e-mail sent from the MFP come from a generic account or will it come from a network user?
• Can Add-Hoc scanning be disabled?
How it will work:
Within Active Directory the network administrator has the ability to store a users login Name and Password and personal e-mail address.
A network user walks up to the MFP and input its Active Directory User ID and Password on the MFP and authenticate itself. Once the scan button is pressed the panel will display the personal e-mail address (Scan to E-Mail) automatically. Usually no other address will be shown because of the security rules from IT side.
Note:
Depending on the capabilities of the machine and User rights, the function can be combined with LDAP search, using pre-defined "One Touch button" or "Speed Dial" button or typing in e-mail addresses manually. FTP, SMB, DFS (Distributed File System (Microsoft)) or any other scan function might be possible as well, but this is NOT the target of this function due to security concerns.
