[edit] Advice...

Please don't make a habit of posting abuse on my page one day - even if you are drunk as you suggested - and then have the hide to ask me for advice. I've seen people blocked for a lot less.

Not that I took any notice - when, like me, you run a wiki project, get a couple of broad and controversial topics (U2, Indonesia) to feature article, get get a few GA's, negotiate solutions to editing deadlocks then I might listen to you. Currently, you seem to have a lot to learn about wikipedia, as exemplified by Heritage homes of Sydney, and your uncivil behaviour.

As for your initial question on templates (which I note has come out of (ill adivsed?) praise I gave you), a navigational template is really not that hard to find. Don't ask me and then be a smart arse (even thought you've missed JRG's point) straight away on my page. Grow up before coming back to my page please. --Merbabu (talk) 10:03, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

You need to take more care [1]. Remember, wikipedia is a big goldfish bowl. --Merbabu (talk) 13:03, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rozelle

It looks to me like we have a problem with the Rozelle article. It says that Callan Park is in Rozelle, but according to Gregory's, it is actually in Lilyfield, (being immediately on the Lilyfield side of the boundary). Seems to me this should be changed; it's the kind of factual thing that we don't want to get wrong. Let me know what you think.

Sardaka (talk) 10:14, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

I have noticed that. Lilyfield was once a very small suburb but the name is more prestigious in recent times. That has led to its borders extended to include Callan Park nad Rozelle Hospital at one end and Leichhardt oval and Leichhardt Park at the other end. Go ahead and make the changes, if you have the time. Cheers. J Bar (talk) 23:44, 16 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Camera

How are you.
Man I just have to ask, What kind of camera are you using bro?. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 07:08, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

I would say that digital is the way to go. Also cannon would be one of the best brands to go with. I can only say this becuase most of the best pictures on wikipedia were taken with cannons. Have a look at this blokes photos User:Diliff. These would have to be some of the best that I have seen. You should also try photo stitching software. In some cases this can be free if you know the rite people or what strings to pull. Check this out. You don't need panoramas but you can use it for wide shots and so on. Have you ever gone out to take pics and thought to yourself, I wish this camera could take in just a little more width or a little more height, well this will solve all you problems. This photo goes all the way around Image:Herny batt.jpg. I think there is about 15 0r 20 twenty adjoining images in this pic and its on two levels. Check it out. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. [edit] Wentworth Park

Hi again. I noticed that someone deleted my entry on the railway viaduct in Wentworth Park. Do you know who it was? I know we have to accept that people will make changes we don't agree with, but in this case there was no rational reason for dumping the material completely. Sardaka (talk) 12:40, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

It probably was deleted accidently with all those other recent changes. It's good info, so I've restored it. I'll try and get a photo of it when I head out that way again. The weather has been rotten lately, so I haven't ventured out in ages. I made some more changes to the Rozelle article after you removed the Callan Park stuff and added some photos from other articles. Thanks for letting me know about the reinstatement of the other editor too. Cheers. J Bar (talk) 13:34, 19 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Henry Fort

Ah, just got your message. The Henry fort is in La Perouse, it is very close to the Golf Links golf club on Cape Banks [2]. If you plan on going there and want to have a look inside, you will definitely have to ask me how to get in. Anyone fatter than me will have great difficulty getting inside though. If you want to find out about other locations and how to infiltrate tunnels and so on, just ask. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 08:25, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

It might be worth having a look at. The link that I gave you marks the exact spot. If you interested here are some other thing in Sydney [3]. I have plenty more than this as well.. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 08:34, 22 April 2008 (UTC)

I am not sure if you have seen this

Hi Sardarka. Was your last message meant for me and what website are you talking about. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 21:55, 29 April 2008 (UTC)

Hi. I actually use a FinePix S5700 S700, I paid $348.00 Aussie dollars. Its not to bad, the photos are average in quality, some look reasonably good but still I would not recommend this camera. I don't know what the Panosonic cameras are like but most of the featured pictures on this website were taken with Cannons, some over over a grand in price. If you have done already check out this guys user page User:Diliff. Its a must see. Don't forget the photo stitching program, you can go up in height as well as wide. Cheers Bro. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 02:08, 2 May 2008 (UTC)

I actually went out today to get a price on the Canon 5D. I was actually in for a bit of shock, I was expecting the price to be around 1200.00 which is kind of in my price range, give or take a few hundred. It was actually closer to $3000.00, a bit much for a hobby that brings in no cash but its kind of interesting when you do a google search on your own wikipedia user name and find that your photos are being used on websites from all over the world, [4] especially when they credit you on their website. The last picture I found being used on a website was a picture of an Australian Water Dragon that I took being used in a news article for a recently discovered new species of lizard they found in some foreign country[5]. The lizard in the picture is totally unrelated to the article but they are still using it "Bizare". --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 01:19, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Here is a gallery of 250 [6]pics that I took. Its a link to my gallery on commons. Also have a look at my photo of the Olympic velodrome on my userpage. I'll get back to you later about some other stuff. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:32, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

If you want people to pay credit to you when it comes to using your photographs you should probably use a different license tag. . --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:48, 3 May 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for the compliments. I have just returned from the Blue mountains and taken heaps of panoramas. This will require a lot of joining so I will upload over the next few days. Here is one of them, the others can be viewed on commons.. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 10:35, 4 May 2008 (UTC)

  • To get the full effect you will have to look at the pic in its highest resolution. That way you will take in the full panoramic effect. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 10:43, 4 May 2008 (UTC)
Hi and sorry for the late reply. I have been kind of busy joining and photoshopping all the panoramas I took in the Blue Mountains over the weekend. I enjoyed the walk through neats glen which starts at the Evans lookout, have you been through that narrow canyon. I can tell you now that canyon with its rainforests is one of the most difficult things to photograph. I may return to cover a different area next time, maybe Wentworth Falls valley of the waters.

When you take some good pics let us know so I can see the quality. I may buy the same camera if I like you shots. With my camera specs I am not quite sure what that is, but the lens is 48mm with a x10zoom. I will show you some more panos once they are uploaded. Also you should try that photo stitching program, not just for panoramas but for wides as well. I noticed you added a picture of a guest house in Katoomba the other day and that there is a bit missing of the end, I think on the right hand side, with the photo stitching you could have atleast taken in the entire house width and hieght.

Do you know of any heritage homes in Sydney that are open to the public. I could probably take panoramas inside if poss. How about one picture that takes in two or three different rooms. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 01:04, 8 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi, how are you going with the new camera. Regarding the view finder, well I never actually started taking photos until I started with my digital. On my camera I have the option of using the screen of the eye peice, I prefere the screen becuase it seem easier for me. I have just added a whole heap of new photos and panoramas to the Blue Mountains article, you may wish to check it out. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 00:38, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] And uploading them

Have you had any trouble with uploads lately? I find they're taking ages and then I give up. Is it me?

Sardaka (talk) 09:33, 14 May 2008 (UTC)

Haven't had any trouble uploading but I haven't done any in the last couple of weeks. Cheers. J Bar (talk) 23:01, 14 May 2008 (UTC)
The photos you are uploading might be high resolution, this may slow things down. Are the pictures from you new camera, are you using the highest resolution possible, how do the new photos compare with you previous scans as far as resolution goes. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 02:22, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I thought that might have been the case. I use the highest rez on my camera which is 7.1 but I don't seem to have any trouble. It only seem to slow if I try to upload more than three images Simultaneous. Normally I would open up three or more tabs at the same time, copy and past all the relevant license tags and info into each page, then upload. But still I suggest you keep using the highest quality images as poss. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 22:00, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

I have just had a look at the new pics. Its a big improvement and the photos are of great quality. You could still take in some more width and height, thats where the program I was talking about would come into good use. Whatever you do do not buy wide or fish eye lenses, they are crap.

My uploads normally take about 1minute or less, even the St Mary's pic didn't take all that long. Instead opening up a new window I set my internet preferences so that I open up a new tab instead. This means I can open up one window on either Mozilla firefox or IE but have several different windows open in tabs. So I open up as many different tabs as I want, you can have 50 if you like but that would probably slow your computer down to much when trying to upload 50 pics at once. I can do about three before my computer freezes up. So I open up three tabs, go to the first tab open up the appropriate screen for uploading the pics, then I copy and paste the web address for that page into every other tab. This will take you staight to the upload page. Then I select an image one after another into the different tabs, then I go to the first tab, add the description, license tag, date and so on. Then lets say every other photo has the same or similar kind of description and so on, lets say for example my Blue Mountains pics. I will copy and past that info into every other tab, then go back to the first tab and hit the upload button one after the other in each tab. It will normally take a few minutes to upload, but once again with my computer I can only do three before it slows right down. Hope this makes sense.

Also, instead of creating a gallery in commons it would be much better to create a category, like category Woollarah, New South Wales. The category then becomes the gallery. You then categorize the category with [[Category:Sydney]], this will make the first category a sub category in the Sydney category. Cheers
. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 01:15, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

I have just created a category for you images [7]. It is now a sub category in category:Sydney. Check it out.. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 01:20, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

If you want to open up in tabs, click tools, general, settings, open links in other programs in, click either new window or new tab. Thats how it seems to work in the latest version of internet explorer. This will not speed up your uploads but it seems like a more efficient way to work with multiple pages or websites. You know you can have more that one wikipage open whilst having the internet open only once. As for download speed it must have either something to do with your computer or internet connection. If you want to buy a good computer at a dirt cheep price. There is a computer market on every Sunday at north Rocks Public School. I bought a second hand del for 340.00 and it is fast as. My latest picture took 20 seconds to upload, its a large file as well Image:PacificHwyChatswood.jpg. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:45, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tabs

No I am not talking about wiki preferences. I am talking about internet settings. If you want to try something good in Wikipedia preferences. click preferences, click gadgets, click navigational popups then save. You wont be disappointed. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:51, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

I am not actually talking about prefs in commons but on wikipedia. I don't think they have popups over there. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:54, 20 May 2008 (UTC) Thats it.

  • To open a new tab right click the empty tool bar just under your web address bar and select open up new tab. Have you tried the popups yet. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 10:10, 20 May 2008 (UTC)
Sorry just had a look it works differently with IE. At the moment I am using firefox. If you have a look at the open tab on the tool bar under the web address bar there is a small box next to that if you click it it should open a new tab, try it. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 10:15, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

You can go into file to open up another tab or just click on the small box next to the tab thats already there. It doesn't do anything special for uploads but would be a more efficient way of using multiple windows or multiple uploads. I think you can have as many tabs as possible. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:18, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] re:Tabs again

I never actually said that tabs sped up uploads, what I was trying to suggest was that it was a more eficcient way of uploading multiple photos or working with multiple windows. For some reason I have had great luck with my uploads lately. The reason for the faster uploads could be either the computer or our internet connection. We don't pay for our internet usage, its paid for by Strathfield Car Radios. I uploaded a picture of Chatswood last night, it took less than a minute.. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 22:01, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Depression articles

I noticed that you began the Depression and natural therapies article, and am letting you know that this article along with several others on depression are undergoing significant 'rewrites'. I had added this category to Depression (mood) in the 'See also' section, and it was deleted yesterday. I have since reversed the edit. Depression (clinical) has also been edited. You may wish to track them.--Cminard (talk) 22:00, 21 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Blue Mountains National Park

Do you know what is the flora and fauna of this national park? (Please respond in your talk page) Otolemur crassicaudatus (talk) 13:29, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

The flora and fauna of the Blue Mts are extremely varied. Forest etc is anything from eucalypt to heath to rainforest pockets in the gullies and canyons. Fauna are likewise varied, including kangaroos, wallabies, wombats and incredible variety of birds. Try the book, Sydney and Blue Mountains Bushwalks, Neil Paton, Kangaroo Press. Sardaka (talk) 13:39, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Commons Gallery

I had a look at the gallery and categories that you created on Commons. It looks pretty good I could probably add quite a few images to them later. I have just been going through some of my older images and found that some of them can be joined. You wouldn't happen to have any pics that can be joined would you. The images would have to have some overlap and be adjacent to one another. If they worked out I could re-upload for you.. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 09:40, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Re:Pix

Hi, I saw some of the galleries on commons. I noticed you tried to create some new categories as well. They look great. The only thing is, when creating a category on Commons, you don't put the actual pictures in the category like you would in a gallery, you put the category at the bottom of the description page of the image itself and this will place the image in the gallery (in alphabeticla order). If you want to create a sub category you would add category:subcat(name of category) to the images that you want to be in the sub category and then categorize the subcat with the main cat. If you want one of you pictures in a category and don't want it to be placed right at the bottom, renam the image with the appropriate name and then place the number 1 at the start of the image name. This will push you image to the top of the category or close to it.

I saw some of the images you took with the new camera, looks like you are doing well. I saw the inside of the church, pretty good for a dark interior shot. Did you use time exposure and a stand. If not you should try some night shots with time exposure [and a stand] especially around the city. Have you seen the velodrome shot on my user page. That is a combination of 32 hand held shots. With the Glebe area, I used to go through there quite a bit but but it has been a few years now so I have kind of forgotten the place, I know its a nice area though. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 01:01, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Commons Categories

You may want to see this. I have just created a two new categories on Commons. The first being Commons:Category:Urban exploration (Sydney) and the second Commons:Category:Cave Clan sites. There is also a Cave Clan article with a few strange sentences in it. Probably original improvised research. Any way check out the categories. Theres quite a few thing that you didn't know about Sydney in them.

Also if you have a look at the categories. Click the edit button for the category and you will notice that I have not added any picture to the category, I have added the category to the pictures. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 01:44, 25 May 2008 (UTC)

When it comes to placing pictures in categories, what you can do is categorize either before or after you upload the image. Categorizing an image is like categorizing an article. So when you place the licence tag, description of the photo and put the date in you can also add the category there as well (on the image description page). If you don't know how to add the category you can copy and past this onto the description page of any of you images[[Category:Name of category]]. Just delete the example and put the name of the cat in its place. I will get back to you about some other stuff later on. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 21:54, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

When you place the licence tag in a photo don't use {{GFDL}} use this instead {{self|cc-by-3.0}}. If you use this and someone decides to use one of you photos in a website they will have to attribute the author. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 22:02, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

When you saved the photo did you save the highest re version. Also I thinkg the file might shrink a bit when you join all the photos up and there is a slight crop at the bottom to take out the hand rail. I'll have to get back to about the camera and the other stuff that I haven't replied to later on in the evening. Cheers. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 22:01, 28 May 2008 (UTC)

I just had a look at the file size for that image on its description page it says that the image size is = 3,462 × 741 pixels, file size: 2.56 MB. --User:Adam.J.W.C. (talk) (talk) 22:03, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
