Saissac

Saissac is a commune in the Aude département in southwestern France. The village is perched in the foothills of the Black Mountain at an altitude of 467m and boasts stunning views of the Vernassonne Gorge as well as the valley plain which streches between Carcassonne and Castelnaudary.

The name of the village first appeared in the 10th Century and originates from the gallo-romain Saxiago. The history of the village is strongly linked the the Château built in the 10th Century.

Today Saissac is a thriving community with over 1000 villagers ( a percentage of which are Scots, English, Irish and Dutch ). The village enjoys an infrastructure which includes a bakery, a mini-mart, a pharmacy, petrol station, doctor and dental surgeries, a local physio-therapist, primary school, post office, swimming pool, football club and wine club.

Increasingly, the village is attracting younger families to set up their homestead, one such family is the Pine family. Alistair, Charlotte and Emilie will be moving into their new home later this year.
