I don't know whether it is true or not but I read that league was quite widely played in Italy but Mussolini (urged on by rugby union officials) declared that there was only one kind of rugby i.e. union and effectively made it impossible to get insurance to play rugby league.GordyB 14:01, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
- Serious? Damn... I'll have to add that to the article I'm writing ;) I'm compiling a list of all the shitty stuff Union have done to league to prevent it from gaining a foot hold and going on to explain how things have turned out today. It's not supposed to be for wikipedia, but I going to try and use it somewhere. You can check it out here. POds 15:09, 7 October 2005 (UTC)

I may be wrong, but perhaps those purists of Rugby Union are deliberately playing this down, but should this not be Rugby League - capital letters for both words? Peter Shearan 18:20, 21 September 2006 (UTC)
