Talk:Rubel Shelly
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Avoid "liberal" and "conservative" in this article. These terms are confusing in this context, and they should be avoided. I hesitated to use any form of these words when starting this article, though I did cite a source that called Rubel "ultra-liberal," because that is a common charge against him, however nonsensical.
Let me give an example: Advocating instrumental music does not make one liberal in any context other than the Churches of Christ, and there are many other examples of why the words "liberal" and "conservative" should be avoided. Rubel Shelly, for instance, believes in the literal Genesis creation account, in the inerrancy of scripture, in a personal God, in the virgin birth, the resurrection of Jesus, and in a Judgement Day that will lead believers and nonbelievers to an actual Heaven or Hell. By most standards, this makes him an "ultra-conservative."
Let's describe what we mean in this article instead of throwing around these confusing labels needlessly. Otherwise, we'll waste time, as others have in other C of C articles, defining what we mean by these words instead of presenting an objective encyclopedia article. This is not a place to make your case for or against Rubel Shelly. Josh a brewer 03:09, 22 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Hack Job
208.54.205.31 has introduced inflammatory POV into this article, and I'm afraid it will have to be reverted or seriously reconsidered. Josh a brewer 07:09, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
