Why in the world is there information about a Richard Davis on Royall Tyler's encyclopedia entry? Fish in the Water 13:27, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

I asked about this in the Village Pump technical discussion page, and the response I got was that it must have been a cache error. --Kyoko 17:22, 3 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why is Tyler's translation better? best?

If The Tale of Genji, like The Lord of the Rings, is not about a narrative arc or the growth of the characters, but about a long series of episodes in which the essential nature of the characters is demonstrated again and again (and again),[1] then it could be argued that Tyler's careful fidelity to the Murasaki text allows that serial demonstration to be made in the writer's own terms. An interesting analytical concept I post here for comment ... or alternately, as a reminder to return to this notion when the article about Tyler has been more fully developed. --Tenmei (talk) 02:09, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
