Royton Railway Station served the town of Royton from 1864 until closure in April 1966.

In February 1961, a runaway train crashed through the buffers at Royton Station, continued on over Highbarn Street and then demolished a pair of terraced houses. Fortunately no one was killed or seriously injured by the incident.[1]
