Royal Rumble (1989) was the second annual Royal Rumble professional wrestling event produced by the World Wrestling Federation (WWF), and the first one to be held on pay-per-view. It took place on January 15, 1989 at The Summit in Houston, Texas.

- Dark match: Jim Powers defeated Barry Horowitz
- Dark match: Sam Houston defeated Steve Lombardi
- Jim Duggan and The Hart Foundation (Bret Hart and Jim Neidhart) defeated Dino Bravo and The Fabulous Rougeaus (Jacques and Raymond) (w/Frenchy Martin and Jimmy Hart) in a Two out of three falls match (15:42)
- Raymond pinned Bret after the Bombe de Rougeau. (4:22)
- Duggan pinned Raymond after an elbow drop. (11:46)
- Bret pinned Bravo after Duggan knocked Bravo out with his 2x4. (15:42)
- Rockin' Robin defeated Judy Martin to retain the WWF Women's Championship (16:24)
- Robin pinned Martin after a flying crossbody from the second rope.
- Sensational Sherri would do commentary for this matchup and challenged the winner of the match.
- The Ultimate Warrior defeated Rick Rude (w/Bobby Heenan) in a posedown
- Warrior won the posedown by winning fan reaction in each of the four categories: "Double Biceps," "Best Abs," "Most Muscular," and "Medley of Poses." However, an irate Rude would attack Warrior with his own metal workout bar.
- King Haku (w/Bobby Heenan) defeated Harley Race (w/Bobby Heenan) (9:01)
- Haku pinned Race after a reverse thrust kick.
- Big John Studd won the 1989 Royal Rumble (1:04:53)
- The final two were Big John Studd and Ted DiBiase.

- This was the first Royal Rumble match to feature 30 superstars. The previous Royal Rumble match featured only 20.
- According to storyline, "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase did not like the entrance number that he drew and therefore consulted with Slick (who managed the Big Boss Man and Akeem) to arrange for the purchase of entrance #30.
- Curt Hennig broke the longevity record, lasting 27:58.
- Hulk Hogan broke the elimination record in a single Royal Rumble Match with nine.
- The Warlord set the record for the shortest time in the ring with three seconds. Some records even timed it at only two seconds.
- With his entry at #7, Jake Roberts became the first person to participate in two Royal Rumble events.
- The Haku Vs Harley Race match was removed from many video release versions of the show.
