[edit] Fair use rationale for The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (film)

No public domain images exist for the film, being copyrighted by New Line Cinema. This image is made from the DVD, which is available for a wide audience, and showing a single frame constituted from hundreds similar does not limit selling of the film. It is purely here for an encyclopedic purpose to represent the film's main cast. As Peter Jackson admits, the third film focuses more on the Hobbits than Aragorn who is the main focus of the second film.

For an article covering the films released in the USA in 2003, one single screenshot identifying the Academy Award winning film of that year in the absence of any other images significantly contribrutes to the article and illustrates the role and significance of that film in cinemtatic history.
