[edit] Edit summaries

When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

Edit summary text box

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field, especially for big edits or when you are making subtle but important changes, like changing dates or numbers. Thank you. --Pak21 16:00, 3 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] WP Policies you may want to familiarize yourself with

Hi Ronin,

Firstly, thank you for deciding to contribute to Wikipedia pages regarding The Terminator movies!

I've noticed that a lot of your edits have been reverted due to their being inconsistent with Wikipedia policies. I would like to draw your attention to those policies, so that you may better understand them, and so you can be more confident that your contributions are in accord with Wikipedia's goals.

For the most part, the edits I have seen you make on the Terminator articles go against WP:NPOV. I hope I can help point you towards the needs underlined in this policy. I understand that as a new editor, seeing your edits frequently reverted without explanation can be frustrating -- It's my goal here to help you understand A) you needn't take it personally , and B) exactly why your edits have been reverted, and how you can improve them so that they will be accepted.

WP:NPOV is the policy that describes how Wikipedia articles must be written in a neutral point of view. Click on WP:NPOV to read the policy, and how you might better tailor your edits to meet it, for the benefit of our common goals on Wikipedia.

A similar policy is the one against "original research", WP:NOR. Original research in this context usually applies to one's own interpretations of things. For example, in the Terminator movies, you may have your own interpretation of Sarah Connor's motives. However, your opinion -- while perfectly suited to other venues, such as your own web page, discussion/forum pages, or even a personal essay -- are not "encyclopedic", which is why opinion cannot be included in Wikipedia.

A general discussion on what Wikipedia is and is not can be found here: Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not.

My suggestion is that you familiarize yourself with these policies; these are here to help define for you what Wikipedia is, what it isn't, and the policies that contributions need to adhere by.

For general editing help, you can always go to WP:HELP. the main help page. At the top of this page (your talk page), you'll see that a "welcome" user placed a template full of good links to help you familiarize yourself with how to (and how not to) edit Wikipedia.

Other Wikipedia editors who are familiar with these policies will undoubtedly be delighted to help you tailor your edits to meet them -- I encourage you to use the "talk" (aka Discussion) pages attached to each article to ask questions about your edits if you are in any question over whether they are in accord with Wikipedia policy, and how they may be best done to this effect.

Again, we are all glad that you have chosen to contribute! If you have any questions after browsing the links to Wikipedia policy I've outlined here, please feel free to ask on my talk page, or anyone's talk page who is involved with a page you are editing.

You are also, like everyone, encouraged to discuss article-specific questions on the talk pages of each article, especially if you find your edits frequently being reverted there -- someone familiar with the article will usually be happy to help you guide your edits.

I hope you enjoy your editing!

[edit] Kane (Highlander)

Hello,

Unfortunately your edits to Kane (Highlander) have been reverted because they didn't follow WP:NPOV and WP:CITE. It is important that Wikipedia articles be written in a non-point of view, balanced style and cite reliable sources, so that other editors can verify the facts. ManfrenjenStJohn gave you a lot of good advice above, so I'm not going to repeat them, but I can only urge you to follow them so that your edits don't get reverted. It can be extremely frustrating and can be avoided by carefully familiarizing oneself with the policies. You are welcome to discuss topics on the relevant talk pages, and the "Welcome" template above gives you useful links if you need help. We are glad that you are here, so keep up the enthusiasm, and happy editing. Have a nice day. Rosenknospe 10:26, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A friendly reminder

Edit summary reminder
Hello. I noticed that your edit to RMS Titanic did not include an edit summary. Please remember to use one for every edit, even minor ones. You can enable the wiki software to prompt you for one before making an edit by setting your user preferences (under Editing) to "Prompt me when entering a blank edit summary". There is also a tool you can check to see your current usage of edit summaries. Thanks, -MBK004 15:40, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Ls ps2.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Ls ps2.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:36, 31 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] March 2008

Please do not add content without citing reliable sources, as you did to Cell (Dragon Ball). Before making potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. If you are familiar with Wikipedia:Citing sources please take this opportunity to add your reference to the article. Contact me if you need assistance adding references. Thank you.
