Ronald Murray (born July 29, 1979 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania), nicknamed "Flip", is an American professional basketball player who currently plays for the NBA's Indiana Pacers. The 6 ft 3 in (1.91 m), 197 lb (89 kg/14.1 st) point guard/shooting guard played college basketball at Shaw University, after attending Strawberry Mansion High School in Philadelphia, where he starred on the basketball team. Nicknamed "Flip" as result of his friends teasing him and comparing him to the character Flip (Bernie Mac) in the movie "Above The Rim" Murray was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft, after being NCAA's Division II Player of the Year during his senior season at Shaw. He has played for the Bucks, the Seattle SuperSonics (where he developed as a scoring threat in 2003-04, subbing for Ray Allen who missed 26 games due to injury, averaging 12 points in 25 minutes, while appearing in all 82 matches), the Cleveland Cavaliers (with career-highs in nearly every category, joining in February 2006) and the Detroit Pistons, whom he signed with during the summer of 2006 for $3.6 million (USD) over 2 years, in an effort to improve the team's bench depth. In the 2006-07 NBA season, Murray started eighteen games (twelve in place of point guard Chauncey Billups and six in place of shooting guard Richard Hamilton).[1]
On February 22, 2008, Murray was waived by the Detroit Pistons.[2] On March 1, he was signed by the Indiana Pacers.[3] There was an expectation the Los Angeles Clippers would sign Murray[4], but he elected to go with the Pacers instead.[5] Murray will now wear jersey number 22.[3]
