[edit] Early years

Roman started training at the age of eight in freestyle wrestling, before switching to training in Sambo and Judo. Roman excelled in the sport and soon climbed to the top becoming a Champion in Armenia. Roman and his family moved to America in 1997, and settled in Los Angeles in 2000.

[edit] UFC Career

Mitichyan had a short stay on The Ultimate Fighter: Team Hughes vs. Team Serra. He broke his elbow during the pre-team selection evaluation, and subsequently, he was sent home from the show before he had an opportunity to fight. Because of this, Jon Koppenhaver, one of the four alternates from the selection process, was brought in to replace the injured Mitichyan, who was awarded a contract with Zuffa, and a fight at the finale show on December 8, 2007.

At the finale show of The Ultimate Fighter 6, live on Spike TV, Mitichyan defeated Dorian Price via ankle lock submission in only 23 seconds.

Mitichyan's most recent fight, which he fought against fellow TUF 6 alumnus George Sotiropoulos at UFC Fight Night 13 saw the first loss of his UFC career.
