Rolling Ball Sculpture
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Rolling Ball Sculpture is a form of kinetic art or kinetic sculpture, that specifically involves a rolling ball. Kinetic Art is a form of art that contains moving pieces. RBS art typically includes rails or tracks made of metal or wood, and a ball or marble of some kind that travels down the tracks. Ball types include and are not limited to: Steel, Acrylic, Wood, and Glass. Rolling Ball sculptures are often described as being both busy and soothing at the same time. They are an artistic form of mechanical motion.
Rolling Ball sculptures (RBS) are sometimes referred to as marble runs, ball runs or rolling ball machines.
There are some commercial ones like Spacewarp from Bandai, Techno Ball and Chaos Machine. Some hobbyists and artists also like making the sculptures by themselves using wood, metal or plastic.
Very little printed material exists about this form of art; however there are quite a few examples of this on the Internet.
