[edit] Before Bon Jovi

I'm having some level of difficulty verifying the following paragraph that was found on the Bon Jovi page. Richie's website appears to be under reconstruction at the moment (24/10/02), and bonjovi.com just switched to a new design a couple months ago, some information seems to be missing still and I'm not familiar with the layout quite yet.

"Before joining Bon Jovi, Richie had toured with Joe Cocker, played with a group called Mercy and had just been called up to audition for Kiss. He also played in the album "Lessons" with the band "Message", that has been recently rereleased in CD through Long Island Records."

Can anyone provide a reliable source for this information? I've been able to verify that Richie appeared on the "Lessons" album, and the rest sounds right from my recollection, but I don't want to go on my own faulty memory here.

-nknight

[edit] "Richie has a feel for a guitar solo, not only following the key of song but the chord progression"

If you play along to 16 bars of a song, of course you have to follow the chord progression! Every soloist has to do that!!!

[edit] Has he got an illness/ overweight?

I have recently been to see Bon Jovi in Manchester (4 June 06) and I waspretty close to the giant screens showing the bands performance, and Richie had a very chubby face, I thought ok, he's just benn dumped by Heather Locklear, but it didn't seem right! He looked pretty horrible, really chubby cheeks, eyes looked weird as well, and it didn't look like his body was overweight.

  • No, no illness has been announced. He was going through a hard time at that point, his wife ended their marriage (apparently without telling him, depending on which media outlet you believe) and his father was either terminally ill or recently passed at the time. Given recent reports, however, he may well have been drinking a lot then and his weight bore the effects of that. Sky83 (talk) 00:32, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] NPOV

There are still some parts of this article that read like a fan site and not like an encyclopedia. Please correct as necessary. --D-Day I'm all ears How can I improve? 22:17, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Agreed --LodeRunner 01:27, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Article quality = not good

Not good at all. I'll see what I can do.Mikejstevenson 12:51, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

That whole 'career' section really is a load of crap. Artificial Harmonics are mostly found in the genre of death metal??? Who wrote this rubbish? Except for the talkbox section, it's all going I'm afraid.Mikejstevenson 12:57, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Better, but still not nearly good enough. Will work on it.Mikejstevenson 13:21, 31 December 2006 (UTC)

Absolutely NO ONE has mentioned his production work with both Bon Jovi and other artists

[edit] Ethnicity

Sambora's article incorrectly stated that his father was Polish and his mother is Italian. Sambora's father, who is of Italian background, met Richie's mother in her native country, Poland, while he was visiting the city of Krakow. She was born and raised in Poland.

A quote about Adam Sambora's death in 2007: Richie Sambora Loses His Dad After a battle with lung cancer, Bon Jovi guitarist Richie Sambora's 70-year-old father Adam Sambora died last Friday. The elder Sambora, an Italian native, met his wife Joan in her native Krakow, Poland and settled in New Jersey, where Richie was born in 1959. Rest in peace.

  • It appears that the surname SAMBORA is not uncommon in Poland though its origin is Hungarian, not Italian. It's very possible that Adam Sambora had a Polish grandfather (3/4 Italian and 1/4 Polish) and hence inherited the surname. Richie's father's Polish heritage may have been why he was perhaps visiting Poland. During the 1950's Poland was not really a hot vacation spot considering the Soviet occupation. All reptuable sources say that Richie's father met his mother, Joan, in Krakow, Poland and there are other sources that say the couple was very involved in New Jersy's Polish community. So who knows.

Also be aware that Sambor was a town in Poland (not in present day Ukraine). Edit: I ment to say NOW in the present day Ukraine.

NONE of this is true. Richie's father was abolutely of Polish heritage. The original Wikipedia page, which was the source of the incorrect info stated in the article, was WRONG. His father's family were all from Krakow and his father was one of 6 children, 4 sisters and 1 brother.

[edit] My edits

Just edited a couple of things.

1. Added two songs that he sings sometimes on tour with Bon Jovi 2. the talkbox isn't heard on Everyday, that's a keyboard effect. I know this by watching live videos of the song.

The intro IS played with a talkbox. You could be mis-interpreting it because there is both guitar and keyboard playing going on. See the live version from Sheperd's Bush Empire in 2002, you can clearly see and hear there's a talkbox during the intro. user:Mr. Bluesman

[edit] New image

Why is this getting reverted? It's better quality and looks nicer. What is with these edit summaries? The image is tagged appropriately. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 00:53, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

Duplicate versions of this same image have been uploaded, each with different source information. Now a new version has been stuck on Commons from a user with no prior edit history other than that one image. An admin has been asked to check into it to see that there are no shenanigans. Pending their review and a supporting review from a Commins admin the potential copyvio has been pulled. If they give the all clear then it can be restored. 156.34.221.39 01:00, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

The reason is the following: The picture was made by a friend of mine. I asked for her permission to use it on Wikipedia and she said it was OK. So, I tried putting it on Wikipedia and dealing with it myself, but it got deleted. The admin team told me the reason it's getting deleted is because I'm not the author, and only the actual author can claim copyright and source. So, I asked her if she could register and do it herself, and she did it. (Joanne Rudd). That's the reason why there's a duplicate and why the author has no prior history of contributing on Wikipedia. There is no piracy, illegal actions or anyting of that sort going on. Thank you, I hope this misunderstanding gets settled. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr. Bluesman (talkcontribs) 09:41, 16 September 2007 (UTC)

There is an WP:OTRS ticket regarding this issue. Ticket#: 2007091410012441. I am an admin and this was brought to my attention as a member of the email-support team. ---J.S (T/C/WRE) 00:00, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

So what now? I wait for approval? Or do I have to contact someone again? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mr. Bluesman (talk —Preceding signed but undated comment was added at 16:48, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] External Links

I have been adding an external link which keeps on getting removed. Is there any reason for this? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Paulkinm (talkcontribs) 08:44, 20 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] 1959, 1970... 14 years??

You say that he is born in 1959 and that he started playing guitar in 1970 when Hendricks died when Sabora was the age of 14.... Msjayhawk (talk) 23:54, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
