Image talk:Rex Stout 1975.jpg
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
I had thought the tag "Promophoto" would work, and I entered it, but since this is my first time uploading an image I probably did that incorrectly or in the wrong place. This is what I'd seen in the "Publicity photos" section on the "Image Copyright tags/Fair use" page...
- Fair use on Wikipedia only applies if it is not possible to replace such publicity image with a free image
- {{Promophoto}}—for publicity photographs of people or events, such as headshots or posed shots, from a press kit. See Wikipedia:Publicity photos.
That's what this image is -- a publicity photo of the author, issued by the publisher with a review copy of his book. It appears in only one article, in the infobox for Rex Stout. Editing help will be appreciated -- I'd like to figure out how to upload images correctly, and the process is really confusing me. WFinch 14:43, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Added copyright tag, need to add fair use rationale -- or do I?
Okay... In editing the summary (for almost cosmetic reasons), I discovered that there was a section invisibly added when I uploaded the image -- "Licensing," which included the copyright tag "Don't know." During the upload process, "Promophoto" hadn't been an option in the drop-down menu of copyright options -- that's why I chose "I don't know." I had tried entering the tag in the summary field, and that was obviously the wrong place, but I have yet to understand where the correct place is during the upload process.
I replaced the "Don't know" copyright tag with the "Promophoto" tag and deleted the "no license" tag that was below it. I figured out the placement of the fair use rationale -- below the copyright tag (which hadn't been visible before before I started editing the existing page), and I've entered the fair use rationale. At this point the page is still bearing the categories "Publicity Photographs with no terms" and "Publicity Photographs with missing fair-use rationale." Any help in understanding and resolving this will be appreciated. WFinch 18:04, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
- In the interest of redundancy I've duplicated the fair use rationale within a template I discovered. The categories "Publicity Photographs with no terms" and "Publicity Photographs with missing fair-use rationale" still remain on the page. Please do not delete this image, I truly believe this to be fair use and have done my best to state that. WFinch 23:09, 31 March 2007 (UTC)
