[edit] History
In 1977 the video distribution company National Video, Inc. was founded; four years later it began selling video store franchises. By 1985 a revenue sharing distribution system became profitable and National Video changed its name to Rentrak Corporation to reflect the new focus on its Pay-Per-Transaction® distribution and revenue sharing programs. Rentrak gained acceptance from film studios and other video program suppliers, retailers and industry analysts, and in 1988 the company went public.
Eventually, the technology was re-imagined to provide business intelligence to leaders in the entertainment and advertising industries. Rentrak aims to be the dominant independent provider of multi-screen media measurement, including linear broadcast, on-demand television, broadband, and mobile devices.
