Renaissance Stakes

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Renaissance Stakes is a Group 3 flat horse race in the Republic of Ireland for three-year-old and above thoroughbreds. It is run over a distance of 6 furlongs (1,207 metres) at the Curragh in September.

Until 2002 the race was run as the MacDonagh Boland Stakes, changing to the Ridgewood Pearl Stakes in 2003. This was in honour of Ridgewood Pearl, the Irish trained winner of the 1995 Breeders' Cup Mile. The present name was adopted in 2004, after a new Ridgewood Pearl Stakes for fillies and mares was introduced at the Curragh in May.

The race was promoted to Group 3 status in 1998, having earlier been classed as a Listed race. Between 1988 and 2001 it was run over a distance of 7 furlongs (1,408 metres).
