Hi, this article has a weird character in its title. Is there any reason for not simply using a hyphen? Thanks. Wmahan. 05:09, 2004 Sep 2 (UTC)

If we changed this, then we would have to change all the rest. The reason this dash exists is to diferentiate it with the way things are spelled in French. example "Sainte-Marie" or "Sainte-Marie—Verdun" There must be a difference. If a dash was used it might infer that Sainte and Marie were two different places, when in reality it is not. This is what Elections Canada does and therefore is official.
