[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia:WikiProject India

Welcome!

Hi, and welcome to the India WikiProject! We're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of India.

A few features that you might find helpful:

There are a variety of interesting things to do within the project; you're free to participate however much—or little—you like:

  • Want to know how good our articles are? The assessment department is working on rating the quality of every India article in Wikipedia.
  • Can you code? The automation department uses automated and semi-automated methods to perform batch tasks that would be tedious to do manually.

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask another fellow member, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Kris (talk) 12:32, 11 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 1 - January 2007

Project News
  • Project tagging:After a brief edit war over the addition of {{WP India}} to ancient archaeological sites now located in Pakistan, a "pre" parameter was introduced to remove the ROI flag from the template for pre-1947 articles, following discussion. After another large discussion on ANI alleging that the automated tagging by Ganeshbot and LostBot was "nationalistic", Ganeshbot was briefly blocked. Currently, the bots are again in action.
  • Swastika on Hinduism templates:Recently, an extremely large and at times emotional debate broke out regarding the use of the swastika on Hinduism templates, given its association with Nazism. As a result, {{Hindu Links}} now contains an educational message about the use of the swastika, as discussion on a more permanent resolution continues.

  • Translation Department: Can you read and write any languages of India? Do you know multiple languages and are looking to keep your skills at a high level or improve them? If so, the Translation Depeartment may be for you!

The translation department of the India WikiProject aims to utilize high-quality non-English material related to India for the goals of the project. This includes both translating articles from and to other-language Wikipedias as well as assisting contributors with non-English sources. The department aims to provide services in transliteration, formulating scripts for various languages, as well as translating articles from one language to another and validating sources in other languages to that of the encyclopedia article. If you are looking for a friendly translator here is your go-to point. Currently, we are still seeking representation for Kashmiri, Nepali, Oriya, Sindhi and Tulu, as well as reinforcements in all other languages.

[edit] WikiProject India Newsletter: Volume II, Issue 2 - March 2007

Project News
  • Jimbo's visit to India and the WikiCamp in Chennai: Jimbo recently visited India in late February and early March on wiki work. This included a trip to a WikiCamp in Chennai. The one day conference attracted 300 participants from across India and beyond dealt with issues facing wikis ([1]). It was widely covered by the press, eg The Hindu( [2]), which cited the efforts of Bhadani (edit count), Sundar (leadership on Tamil Wikipedia) and Ganeshk (Creation of Ganeshbot to create articles on Indian towns from census figures). Ganeshk himself travelled from California to attend the conference.
  • Wikipedia Weekly 15: Wikipedia Weekly, a informal Wikipedians' program that purports to give "A weekly audio roundup of Wikipedia happenings with news, interviews and roundtable discussions" recently interviewed two prominent editors Rama's Arrow and Ragib(listen). The entire 34 minute interview was entirely about the world of Indian subcontinent wiki-happenings, and was the first episode which was not entirely dominated by discussion of wiki-politics and wiki-bureaucracy, with the host Witty lama praising the efficiency of the project and its proliferation of featured content. Rama's Arrow cited the team spirit, friendship and respect among project members in discussing its success and FA productivity, as well as discussing subcontinental wiki-conflict. Ragib talked also of his public campaign to raise awareness of the Bengali Wikipedia in his native Bangladesh, which has seen a 30-fold increase in article count over the past year.

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Dd_national.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Dd_national.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use. Suggestions on how to do so can be found here.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Videmus Omnia Talk 03:30, 23 July 2007 (UTC)

Hey ,it seems that you added no fair use rationale tag at the same time as I added the fair use rationale. What's weird is that wikipedia added changes from both of us but did not show me your tag after saving the page. Anyways, since I have added the fair use rationale, I removed the tag. [edit] thanx for the message

Hey wut's up with you? I don't know why are you so acting up??? There is only one channel Zee TV. It doesn't matter, the thing is you need to list shows that airs on ZEE NETWORK. It doesn't matter whether it is in India or USA. This is wikipedia, anybody has the right to edit. So please don't get offended and let other people enjoy wikipedia. Thanks again!!!!!!!Survir

Acting up? I wrote similar messages to you twice before this but you blanked your talk page the first time and did not respond the second time leading me to believe that you do not understand what I'm trying to say.
And now to answer to your comments: No, there isn't just one channel, Zee TV. Zee TV, by default, represents Zee TV India. In addition to that, Zee TV has separate other feeds such as in the UK, the US and Australia & NZ. Now, Zee TV US, which is what you watch, broadcasts a lot of shows that are aired on other Zee channels such as Zee Smile, Zee Muzic and Zee News. Adding these shows to the list of shows aired by Zee TV is wrong the way I see it. Also, these other feeds air a lot of former shows (which you keep moving to the current shows) which again makes the list confusing and incorrect for everyone.
"the thing is you need to list shows that airs on ZEE NETWORK" - I don't think so. Zee Network has more than 20 channels. Should we list all of those together?
As far as this being wikipedia is concerned, all I am trying to ensure is that information available here is correct and exact. And I did not tell you to not "enjoy" wikipedia. I merely suggested that you find a way of differentiating shows that are aired only on Zee USA. I told you to create a seperate page. Now I say that you could just create a new subsection in the list of shows I created for shows aired by Zee TV USA. Raj712 04:20, 25 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] hi

hi, i saw your small correction of "Education in Lucknow" ... could you have a review of it? I see you are a member of India and I am in the UK. Does it look 90% OK? Victuallers 10:49, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

I have added few more institutes/univs to the template but on the whole, it looks alright to me :) Raj712 07:50, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Regarding zee tv shows

Hey what's up dude!!!! this is Survir. I just want to ask you that the show that has been added to zee tv current drama section (Keshvi, Khwaabh, and Vaade Kasme) are real. Yes, I have searched all of the zee tv websites, but i haven't read anything about these dramas. So if they are real, then I can try to find information and edit these drama pages. Also, I have read on one of the website that Kasme Vaade is/going to air on Star Plus not on Zee TV. So can you please reply back and I will be glad to add info to these pages. Thank you!!!!!!! Survir 3:11 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:SabLogo.gif)

Thanks for uploading Image:SabLogo.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 06:00, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need Help

Hey Raj what's up? I just want to ask you if we are able to delete the old tags from the USER TALK page??? Are We?????????????Survir UTC 13:09 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Survir (talkcontribs) 20:10, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

Hi Survir, do you mean to ask if we can remove old conversations from the talk page? Yes, if the talk page gets too long, we may archive it. Take a look at Help:Archiving a talk page to learn how you can create an archive so that your talk page can be clean again :) Raj712 03:46, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] General Inquiry

Hello Raj, this is Survir. I just want to ask that how should we stop other people from changing the main plot of the TV serialS and putting synopsis instead. For example, Kasamh Se, someboday totally changed the main plot/story and putting episode synopsis instead. Survir 24 Oct 2007. 15:02 (UTC)

Its a tricky issue. If the edits were vandal edits, you could have dealt with these people using Wikipedia:Vandalism#How_to_respond_to_vandalism. But since these are not really vandal edits, what you could do is try talking to these people. Explain to them what exactly is expected in the main plot and how their contribution isn't really appropriate. Hopefully, this would work. If it doesn't and they continue changing it then you might have to follow the Wikipedia:Dispute resolution guidelines. Raj712 03:51, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Multiple IP address problem

Here is a solution to your problem. Once the vandal vandalizes enough to be reported on WP:AIV, simply list all the IP addresses used by the person. However, you should make sure that they are all actually used by this one vandal before doing this. I hope that helped! Captain panda 04:04, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Need Help in Here!

Hello Raj, this is Survir. I just want to ask you that there is this ariticle with the name of Durga Maa Telefilms, which doesn't actually exist. The only website that found on the internet of this particular telefilms company is actually created by free website builders. I think it is probably the same user that just trying to make up names and add them under ZEE TV, SONY TV, STAR Plus and etc. I have tried to search those drama names, but couldn't find anywhere, plus they're not listed on the main websites for these channels as well. This guy just keeps adding these hoaxes under the original articles ZEE TV, SONY TV, STAR, ETC... So, I just wanted to ask you how should we stop this. (JUST BY UNDOING IT everytime), because all it shows his IP address, so we can't even leave a message for this user. So can you please take a look at it and send me a message (OR send a message to the some guy who works with wiki.. so they can solve this problem. Sorry, another thing, I am 100% sure that this is a hoax, because Banoo Main Teri Dulhann is created by SHKUNTLAM TELEFILMS, but this guy changes it everytime to Durgaa Maa... I'll be thankful for your help! Survir (Survir) 11:51, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
