Template talk:Raja Yoga

[edit] Usage

I created mainly for navigating between 8 limbs. You can remove in all other places, but when somebody comes to one limb he should know which limb he is in and he should be able to understand the place he landed in. Lara_bran 06:45, 7 August 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for creating it. Have you seen Template:Yoga which already includes the eight limbs? That uses a horizontal design, and can be used to replace the See also section on various articles, which often develop link farms. Note that most of the terms in the eight limbs are used in other senses in Hinduism as well as their specific technical use in Patanjali's system. So placement of this on some articles may not be appropriate, as the concepts are more general in some cases. You may want to test it out a bit on a few articles.
I'm not clear on why Surya Namaskara is on the template, as it is not part of the Patanjali system. It's inclusion on the template makes the purpose of the template less clear to me.
Also note that placement of multiple navigation templates on the same article can be confusing to readers, and can create layout problems if the template size requirements are not coordinated. Vertical strips that are different widths can look bad, or create stacking problems. So you may get resistance just for formatting issues if you try to place a new template on an article that already has templates. In such cases, just mention it on the talk page for the article and see what other editors think. Buddhipriya 06:53, 7 August 2007 (UTC)
It is more specific to raja yoga over complete set of yogas mentioned yoga template. I have updated description noinclude, give a look. Surya Namaskara is given in see also section, which is derived from raja yoga, give me some time for sources. I have included it as it is relevant to common man who is interested in only physical/mental activities but not into philosophy/history of yoga. Lara_bran 09:34, 8 August 2007 (UTC)

I have listing some external links to connect surya namaskara with raja yoga. I could not correctly figure out what exactly is relevant. Isa. Up. 15 [1] [2] Also all the asanas of surya namskara is derived from raja yoga, its just a combination. They also say that surya namaskara is practiced prior to asanas. As for cluttering there are only 2 templates in yoga. Some articles have some 5-6 templates embedded into them. Also other template has only Sanskrit words, which is difficult to comprehend what is what. So i am reincluding in few of your reversions, let it be there for some time. Regarding use on any particular article, I suggest that you discuss it on the talk page for the article involved so regular editors there (if any) can express opinions. I continue to be lukewarm on this template for the reasons I previously described. The template is redundant because the eight limbs of Yoga are already listed on the Yoga template, which is on all of the articles you are adding it to. Listing the same links twice in two templates is linkspam. Also, the template includes links to unrelated terms such as Kriya, etc., which result in the template not being specific even to the subject of Raja Yoga. Even if it were a better template, adding multiple templates to articles creates clutter and actually works against the reader's navigation ease of use. Buddhipriya 05:06, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
This is english encyclpedia and audience are english. They dont understand terms in sanskrit of Template:yoga, hence they cant use that template for navigation between limbs. This is for users who donno sanskrit. And 2 templates are certainly not redundant, i know what is linkspam, dont explain. Lara_bran 05:14, 20 August 2007 (UTC)
