[edit] Happy New Year!!!!!
- Happy New Year Psdubow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
From: Cocoaguycontribstalk 00:00, 1 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] If you're interested ...
You might or might not be interested in working on an article called Glasgow Emancipation Society. It's an off-shoot of James McCune Smith, which I saw you'd worked on pretty extensively. NinaOdell and I have begun the article and we've dug up a lot of useful information, so if you're interested the help would be much appreciated :). Thanks, Mrmaroon25 00:21, 6 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Bmmc.us and other web content
Awhile ago, I offered to restore the article you had created on the website Bmmc.us to your userspace so you could work on it. I just today noticed that you had recreated the article in mainspace; however, the site still does not meet our inclusion guidelines for websites, so I've deleted it again. See, specifically, speedy deletion criterion A7 and WP:WEB. I may not have been sufficiently clear before: a website that 'expects to relaunch' in 2007 is exceedingly unlikely to meet our inclusion criteria, and this one certainly does not. I see that you've also created another article, Bravenet, that has similar failings; it does not assert the notability of the subject, nor does the site look likely to meet WP:WEB. Please check the relevant policies before creating more articles on websites, as this will help avoid putting work into an article on a subject that is just not notable enough to be in an encyclopedia. Thanks. Opabinia regalis 06:40, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Asked me to block
Hi there, I cannot block the IP as I'm not an administrator, unfortunately I cannot put a request in for a block because when I checked his contribs I could not see any further vandalism after my warning test4 warning, if you see him vandalise after my test4 warning the please consider reporting him to WP:AIV. Happy edting and happy vandal fighting!!! TellyaddictEditor review! 17:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
- Well it seems like his vandalism may have gone unnoticed but above my warning there is a Blatantvandal template but theres no link to say which article he/she vandalised so it could have been about his edits to the article you just said on my talk page or it could have been about something else. To ensure a block if he vandalises again, I'd wait until he vandalised once more just to make sure that a block can be definitely ensured for their vandalism. If it were up to me, vandals would be warned once then blocked on the second occasion of vandalism for a period of one week, but I don't make the rules and cannot enforce these, I just have to stick to the vandalism guidelines. Anyway thanks for your patience in this matter. Respectfully...TellyaddictEditor review! 18:09, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Tdalal pornboy
Hi AnnH, Please say something to User: Tdalal pornboy, because I find his user page extremely offensive, weird, perverted, inappropriate, and down-right creepy!!!! Just look at his user page, and I think you'll agree with me! Thanks! Psdubow 20:43, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Thanks for the heads up. I have blocked the account. Hope all is well with you. Musical Linguist 20:52, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Thank you very much for blocking him, I really appreciate it! Psdubow 20:55, 14 February 2007 (UTC)
Yes, that IP could well be the same person, but we don't usually block IPs indefinitely, unless they're open proxies, as innocent users can be affected. Cheers. Musical Linguist 23:46, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:Venus Construct.jpg
Thanks for uploading Image:Venus Construct.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:
This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 01:10, 7 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image tagging for Image:Thomas D Chamberlain.png
Thanks for uploading Image:Thomas D Chamberlain.png. The image has been identified as not specifying the source and creator of the image, which is required by Wikipedia's policy on images. If you don't indicate the source and creator of the image on the image's description page, it may be deleted some time in the next seven days. If you have uploaded other images, please verify that you have provided source information for them as well.
For more information on using images, see the following pages:

[edit] Welcome!
Hi, and welcome to the Military history WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to military history.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPMILHIST Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, offline publication, article improvement contests, and other tasks.
- We have a number of task forces that focus on specific topics, nations, periods, and conflicts.
- We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask one of the project coordinators, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around! Carom 21:54, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Changing other people's posts
Please resist the urge to correct other people's spelling and grammar in talk page posts, WikiProject membership lists, AfD discussions and the like (as opposed to articles); this is considered a major faux pas. PS: This took place at Wikipedia:WikiProject Cue sports#Participants; the edit was made by 162.84.146.180 (talk · contribs), who also added you as a participant there, so either it was you logged out, or someone has presumably without your permission added you and details about you to a WikiProject. — SMcCandlish [talk] [cont] ‹(-¿-)› 23:45, 3 May 2007 (UTC)
- Hi,
- Sorry, I did not know I was not allowed to correct peoples' grammar in talkpage posts? i am just curious, why is that?
- Also, Yes, I signed myself up to Cue Sports Wikiproject. I forgot to log in first though.
- Have a good day.
- Psdubow 00:52, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
-
- It's considered disruptive editing. Basically, it is a thinly veiled insult ("your spelling and grammar suck, and I'm smarter than you"), and often also leads to US vs. UK English fights. Just not worth it. A commonly recognized exemption is fixing something that is functionally broken, such as a typo in a link that makes it not work at all. Fixing indent levels so that who is replying to whom is clear (as I just did here), and fixing typos or unclarities in topic headings is cool too (like if you'd written "peoples'" instead of "people's"); no one "owns" topic headings.
- Anyway, welcome to WP:CUE by the way. :-)

[edit] reply: Please expand
Some basics:
- Who gives order?
None can order anyone to do anything. Not me, not you. Sometimes it's a real setback, but welcome to our anarchy.
- What is important?
In an anarchy everyone defines for him/herself what is important.
- How can I get other people to improve an article?
The best way is the do it yourself way. If you are doing something and other editors see that, they are much more inclined to help you. The smaller the favor you ask for, the more likely you achieve positive results.
Best wishes Wandalstouring 14:48, 4 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] reply: Question
Great Britain and Canada did play a role as parties who could possibly be involved and their citizens(including Irish volunteers/aristocrats having fun with the blockade runners) were involved on both sides. But others like Mexico, France, Spain or the emigrating German democrats (an organized and very active group) did play an important role with their support or abstinence. I suggest to create something like an overview of the different foreign influences and supporters, plus an overview about why some nations(the public opinion, their leading statesman and the opposition) reportedly considered to intervene or were opposed to it. Before you start implementing material into an article, ask the Wikipedia:WikiProject Military history/American Civil War task force about their opinion, because I'm not too familiar with the topic. Wandalstouring 15:16, 6 May 2007 (UTC)
- If you think the article looks good or you are out of ideas to improve it, submit it to a review and wait for what someone else says. Wandalstouring 07:33, 7 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] New task force
Hi Psdubow! A few editors are getting together to create a task force with the goal of making sure environmental records of corporations and politicians are accurately and efficiently represented in relevant entries. Given your environmenta interests and great edits, I thought I'd bring your attention to this project. If you think it's a good idea, please consider chiming in on the discussion page. We hope to have a task force page up soon and of course would love to have you involved. Advice is of course welcome. Benzocane 23:09, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

- Hi Psdubow! thanks for your work on the ERTF project--I'm wondering about the user erf template--should I edit it back to "environmental record task force"? To me that makes more sense than "environmental records," since we are hoping to establish the record of each organization or individual. What do you think? Cyrusc 21:55, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, now that I think about it you're probably right. "Record" makes more sense then "Records". I'll change it back. Psdubow 22:01, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] SIGN YOUR POSTS
Hi, there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. On many keyboards, the tilde is entered by holding the Shift key, and pressing the key with the tilde pictured. You may also click on the signature button
located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you!
LISTEN!!!!!!!!! Its ok to be informal but please at the least use ~~~~~ after your posts or customize your signature to this code [[User:Psdubow|PSD]] -- (Cocoaguy ここがいい contribstalk) 23:47, 16 June 2007 (UTC)

Okay, I'll join the task force and the wikiproject. I think our first priority needs to be getting this wikiproject organized. I'm not going to do it right now though, I have too many other things to do, unfortunately. --Psychless 04:35, 17 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Unspecified source for Image:Thomas_D_Chamberlain.JPG
Thanks for uploading Image:Thomas_D_Chamberlain.JPG. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, then you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, then their copyright should also be acknowledged.
As well as adding the source, please add a proper copyright licensing tag if the file doesn't have one already. If you created/took the picture, audio, or video then the {{GFDL-self}} tag can be used to release it under the GFDL. If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Fair use, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:Image copyright tags#Fair use. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.
If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 19:41, 23 June 2007 (UTC). Okay. Thanks for your help!
Psdubow 22:37, 28 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] AIV
Thank you for making a report at Wikipedia:Administrator intervention against vandalism. Reporting and removing vandalism is vital to the functioning of Wikipedia and all users are encouraged to revert, warn, and report vandalism. However, administrators generally only block users if they have received a recent final warning (one that mentions that the user may be blocked) and they have recently vandalized after that warning was given. The reported user has not yet been blocked because it appears this has not occurred yet. If this user continues to vandalize after their final warning, please report them to the AIV noticeboard again. Thank you. --VS talk 22:50, 28 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Mexican-American task force
Hi Richiar,
I read on the Wikiproject Military History talk page that you are interested in the Mexican-American War. Would you like to create that task force with me maybe?
Psdubow 15:51, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Yes, but I don't know anything about what that takes. Also, it is reasonable to organize a task force so that it covers an appropriate category, so in terms of efficiency and effectiveness, are there other areas we might want to include that would be connected to the Mexican-American War? Richiar 16:23, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Maybe the Texas Revolution and Manifest Destiny. Psdubow 16:58, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Right. Manifest Destiny and Texas Revolution are both good ideas. I went to the list of task forces and think it might be appropriate to have something in line with the era of development of the US, say "Pre-Civil War Task Force". That would include the Revolution, War of 1812, Mexican-American War. Then there is a developmental process, as the country evolves over time. Just a thought. Richiar 17:23, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
That is a great idea!!! A "Pre-American Civil War Task Force", it would be everything: from the French and Indian War, to The Revolution, then the War of 1812, plus internal conflicts like the Seminole War, and then the Texas Revolution, and the Mexican-American War, and the whole concept of Manifest Destiny! It's great! But my one and only concern is that is resembles the United States Military History Task Force a lot. But, on the other hand, our idea focuses on Pre-Civil War America and the United States Military History Task Force focuses on the US Army, and not a particular time period or war or conflict in general. What do you think?
Psdubow 20:40, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like from what I'm seeing, there shouldn't be any conflict. The US Military classification seems to have to do with units and men etc that are involved in the various battles and conflicts. In fact, the Mexican-American war was the lead-in to the Civil War. Everyone was jockying for position, and when the Civil War came along, the main guys got their experience in the MA war. There is a problems I think with the general classification system itself, but I'm researching it and leaving some comments on the main talk page. Anyway, it should be ok to relate the participants in the MA war to the US Military History project, and sort of have a "joint operation", if you will. Richiar 22:02, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I have not responded since June 29, I've been away. Well, anyway, let's create it!!! Please respond ASAP when you are ready, because I won't create it until I know both of us are ready.

[edit] A Belated Reply.
Hello there!
Thank you for your interest and your kind comments about my work on the Fremantle article, it is very much appreciated. I'm terribly sorry that it's taken me so long to get back to you, but unfortunately I haven't been on wikipedia for quite some time: finishing my degree and various other pursuits rather rudely interrupted me!
I would be happy to work with you on future Civil War articles, especially in the 'fleshing out' of the 'Three Months in the Southern States' article, which I would quite like to link more closely to the Fremantle article (which, incidentally, I should be finishing in the next week or so.) I may even be able to come up with a map of the route Fremantle took!
I also think that I shall indeed join the Task Force. I've noticed that one or two of the requested articles fall within my sphere of expertise, namely Heros von Borcke and the blockade runner William Watson, and I would like to begin work on those once I finish with Colonel Fremantle. I'm also happy to work on any topic concerning European involvement or relations with the two sides in the Civil War.
Yours gratefully,
The Octopus King

[edit] Contribution
Hello. I am currently trying to contribute to a battle in respect to giving a reason why a Viking force had to withdraw from a native attack, which I think was instrumental to the article itself and since the person in question received her place in history for that act. Its my understanding that Wikipedia is meant for contributions, but the people at that region see fit to leave the situation vague. They have told me that I cannot simply copy and past from references and, in short order, I re-wrote the small addition in my own words. I don't see what the problem here is, however, they simply revert my edits and give me vague conclusion to why they have done so. [edit] The newest WikiProject
[edit] Announcement
Hi, and welcome to the newly started Arab world WikiProject! As you may have guessed, we're a group of editors working to improve Wikipedia's coverage of topics related to the Arab World.
The project birthday would be celebrated every August 24.
A few features that you might find helpful:
- Our navigation box points to most of the useful pages within the project.
- The announcement and open task box is updated very frequently. You can watchlist it if you're interested; or, you can add it directly to your user page by including {{WPARAB Announcements}} there.
- Most important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is highly recommended that you watchlist it.
- The project has several departments, which handle article quality assessment, detailed article and content review, and other tasks.
- Important notice
- We've developed a variety of guidelines for article structure and content, template use, categorization, and other issues that you may find useful. These guidelines can be subject of discussions at the project talkpage or simply WT:ARAB.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask User:FayssalF for the time being, or any experienced member of the project, and we'll be happy to help you. Again, welcome! We look forward to seeing you around!
[edit] Salem Witch Trials Task Force
Thanks for the offer to join, but unfortunately I'm going to decline. I have other projects I'm currently focusing on and I don't have too much interest in the subject matter. I hope the task force is successful in expanding the related articles with improved quality. Keep up the good work and happy editing! --Nehrams2020 21:22, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
May I ask why I was selected to receive this invitation? Thanks, --Clubjuggle 22:04, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Because I see that you revert vandalism and we need someone to concentrate on consistantly reverting vandalism on articles about or having to do with the Salem Witch Trials. Psdubow 22:18, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- Fair enough, but I'll have to politely decline. If I do happen to notice vandalism on the articles, I'll be happy to revert it, but my main content-editing interest is probably closer to WP:USRD. I was mainly concerned because I saw you had sent out a large number of invitations, which gave the appearance of possible spamming of User Talk pages. Glad to see that's not the case. --Clubjuggle 22:22, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
Hey, thanks for the invitation, even though I probably won't join the project for now, since I'm more an enthusiast of Nathaniel Hawthorne than of the history of the Salem Witch Trials. Best wishes, Defrosted 03:15, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Hi Psdubow! I am definitely interested in joining the task force. Due to my crazy schedule, I will probably be a bit sporadic in my contributions, (nothing for a week, then four hours on wiki at once) but if that's okay with you, sign me up. Thanks for the invite!ShayDC 01:59, 5 September 2007 (UTC)
Don't worry about it. Whenever you have time is okay with us! :) Psdubow 17:08, 5 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] My Retirement
Dear Friends and Fellow Wikipedians,
Today, I announce that I am going into retirement.
The reason is I simply do not think I have the time to edit Wikipedia anymore. Plus, in the future, I'll probably have even less time to dedicate to Wikipedia.
Although I am retiring, I may occasionally log on to Wikipedia just to see how everything is going (and I might even do a few edits, every now and then). But for the most part, I am going to be inactive.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Psdubow 20:45, 26 September 2007 (UTC)
- Goodbye, My friend; though we see each other each day it is like i will never see you again. :( -- (Cocoaguy ここがいい contribstalk) 21:31, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

The Biography WikiProject Newsletter Volume IV, no. 4 - September 2007 |
|
Congratulations to our 225 new members |
The newsletter is back! Many things have gone on during the past few months, but many things have not. While the assessment drive helped revitalize the assessment department of the project, many other departments have received no attention. Most notably: peer review and our "workgroups". A day long IRC meeting has been planned for October 13th, with the major focus being which areas of the project are "dead", what should our goals be as a project, and how to "revive" the dead areas of our project. Contribute to the discussion on the the new channel (see below) We decided to deliver this newsletter to all project members this month but only those with their names down here will get it delivered in the future. This is your newsletter and you can be involved in the creation of the next issue. Any and all contributions are welcome. Simply let yourself be known to any of the undersigned or post news on the next issue's talk page
Lastly, a new WikiProject Biography channel has been set up on the freenode network: Our thanks to Phoenix 15 for setting it up.
