- I've cleared up the AFD tag for you - the fellow who closed the discussion forgot to remove it. Cheers! Tony Fox (arf!) review? 04:49, 5 July 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Clarke
Thanks for the correction. I was working quickly with the immediately available material, so I may well have made errors. As there seems to be some dispute over the importance of his work, it would probably be best to expand the discussion in the article with the pertinent refs, saying who did what. Thanks, DGG 05:12, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Makuleke
Hi Profberger. You are off to such a great start on the article Makuleke that it may qualify to appear on Wikipedia's Main Page under the Did you know... section. The Main Page gets about 4,000,000 hits per day and appearing on the Main Page may help bring publicity and assistance to the article. However, there is a five day from article creation window for Did you know... nominations. Before five days pass from the date the article was created and if you haven't already done so, please consider nominating the article to appear on the Main Page by posting a nomination at Did you know suggestions. If you do nominate the article for DYK, please cross out the article name on the "Good" articles proposed by bot list. Also, don't forget to keep checking back at Did you know suggestions for comments regarding your nomination. Again, great job on the article. -- Jreferee (Talk) 01:33, 29 July 2007 (UTC)
Excellent. Well done, very comprehensive and thankyou Professor Berger for sharing your research and expertise with us. Have a good day and happy editing, Blnguyen (bananabucket) 01:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Nautilus
I must say I was very happy to see your Nautilus images when I logged on last night! N. belauensis is quite a rarity due to its restricted range and there are few images of it online. I would certainly be interested in seeing any other Nautilus images. If you plan to upload images under a free license then please consider using Wikimedia Commons. Images uploaded to Commons can be used by all language Wikipedias as well as other Wikimedia projects. Regards, Mgiganteus1 05:26, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
- Images released under a free license can be used by anyone. However, technical limitations mean that images uploaded to the English Wikipedia can only be used on the English Wikipedia. Mgiganteus1 05:37, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] About being your own source.
This policy is probably what you want. Generally, citing yourself is OK as long as you aren't trying to use it to win a content dispute (for example, if I say the earth revolves around the moon, and you say the moon revolves around the earth, even if you're an astronomer, using your own experience would be highly inappropriate, and such things have caused Wikipedia trouble in the past), you aren't trying to boost your own appeal (get more people to buy your books, follow your opinion, or in other ways advertise), and you aren't soapboxing (for example, a Geologist using his obvious experience to support evolution in favor of creationism) From what I've seen, your sources are very non-controversial, but informative, and will almost certainly be appreciated here on Wikipedia, as long as you stick to the above rules.
That said, welcome to Wikipedia! We hope you enjoy it here, and feel free to ask us, the WP:N? or WP:HD boards. As a suggestion, you might also be interested in one of our sister projects, Wikibooks. Their goal is to create entirely readable and educational books, and that seems like something you're experienced with ^^
- Ok, I actually read through Makuleke, and I have a couple suggestions. While the article is written very well, and is interesting, some parts of it show the 'bookiness' of it, instead of the encyclopedia we strive to me. For example, we try to avoid using words like "One" and "you". I'll list some examples below.
| What it says | What would be Better |
|---|---|
| (The other interesting facts) | Most of these would probably be better off in the article on Limpopo or the Limpopo River |
| ...Ancient, and Dying...Young, and Powerful... | These are probably not needed at all. They do not sound entirely appropriate for an encyclopedia. |
| The landscape itself is ancient. The rocks in the area reach back over 250 million years recording at their base the greatest extinction event the planet has ever seen, an event heralding the end of the Palaeozoic and the beginning of the Mesozoic – the age of the dinosaurs. This extinction is known as the Permian extinction and well over 80% of all species on the planet vanished – a tragedy for some but an opportunity for others. | Some rocks in the area reach back over 250 million years, and have records of the Permian extinction. |
- Now, to be quite honest, I prefer your style, but it's not really how Wikipedia is written, as that style of writing tends to lend itself to supporting points of view. Some things are just longer than they need to be, like the information about the Paleozoic and Mesozoic time periods, while useful in a book, are not so useful on Wikipedia when you can just say "The rocks record the Permian extinction", and they can click on the link to find out more. I can make these sorts of changes to the article for you if you want, and then you can just proofread them to make sure they're factually accurate, or you can try to make them yourself, and then I can cleanup anything you miss.
- P.S. - Remember, Perfection comes not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing more to take away --Longing.... 20:00, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
No problem. I'll have to put this off till tomorrow though, my typing accuracy falls off like cars on a collapsing bridge (what, too soon?) when I'm sleepy. This might seem like a bit of a random request, but if you happen to know anything about Kowlian, Afghanistan, or a source that has information on it, could you put it in that article, or at least put it on the talk page there? I'd like to have more than "It's a place." I realize you're a completely different part of the world than it is, but I figure hey, you might have a reference or something that I didn't try out that could be useful. --L--- 05:34, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Copyright on Makuleke
I note that much of this article appears to be copied from ref 2. I'm working under the assumption that you are actually the author of that webpage; however, I believe a formal statement of copyright release will still be required from you. I've therefore listed the page at Wikipedia:Copyright problems, so that they can inform you how to go about formally releasing the copyright. Espresso Addict 00:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Yes, keep in mind that any contribution you make to Wikipedia must be made under WP:GFDL, or in the public domain. You cannot use copyrighted text verbatim. If you wish to release the content into the public domain or GFDL, you must make a comment *on that (external) page* that specifically states that you do. --Longing.... 00:59, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! I'm not an expert in free licensing, but I believe that you need only include a link to the license terms under which you are releasing the material. Regards, Espresso Addict 12:21, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Thanks
Thanks for that source about fighting in Kowlian, even "it has been the source of fighting" is better than just "It's a place". --L-- 14:42, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Image:Kromdraai B.jpg
Thank you for uploading images/media such as Image:Kromdraai B.jpg to Wikipedia! There is however another Wikimedia foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading media there instead. That way, all the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons. Please note that non-free content, such as images claimed as fair use, cannot be uploaded to the Wikimedia Commons. Help us spread the word about Commons by informing other users, and please continue uploading!

Lee, I'm publishing a sequel to Jules Verne's 20,000 Leagues under the Seas and I'd like to use your wonderful photo on the book cover, if that use is covered by the Attribution 2 licence you gave it. Could you confirm that? I'd also like to send you a copy of the book when it is published. Please e-mail me from my Talk page and give me your address. -- Evertype·✆ 23:12, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
