Heinrich Julius is the youngest child of Ernest Augustus IV, Prince of Hanover (1914-1987) and his first wife Princess Ortrud of Schleswig-Holstein-Sønderburg-Glücksburg (1925-1980).

Prince Heinrich Julius of Hanover was in a relationship with cabaret artist Désirée Nick (born 30 September 1960 in Berlin). Their brief union produced his first son, Oskar Heinrich Julius Ferdinand Nick, on 29 September 1996 in Berlin.
