[edit] Preston North End F.C.

I believe this is a factually correct, thorough club history, and stands up when compared to any other football club histories, some of which are already featured articles.

Bold text The date you have for Preston North Ends formation is in incorrect.... you have it as 1881 when in fact it is may of 1880..... The extract below is quoted from the clubs own web site, and a similar date is given in a new book about the club called "loud & proud Preston" by authors Mike Payne and Ian Rigby ( club historean )

"The success of other clubs on Lancashire who were playing soccer had not gone unnoticed at Deepdale and in May 1880 a resolution proposing the adoption of the association code was proposed by Mr Harry Cartmel and seconded by William Charnley and was carried unanimously." from pne's club web site

[edit] squad template

Could somebody who knows about the team make a squad template? Guidelines can be found here SenorKristobbal 09:37, 4 August 2006 (UTC)

Done. Hope its OK. Wikilinked the ones I know share names like Paul McKenna will check the other another time, when I'm not suposed to be working. Jimmmmmmmmm 16:12, 9 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A note on British English

British English should be used for articles on Britain related topics. Likewise, American English should be used on articles pertaining to American topics. For a clearer example, please visit this sub-section on the differences between their usage. However, is" works better than "are" with the term club as it is a singular and not a plural noun. (Compare with the word team which is a plural noun) --Siva1979Talk to me 13:13, 4 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why "North End"?

Why are they called "Preston North End", and not just "Preston"? Was there ever another team in Preston? Thryduulf 11:40, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] NPOV/tone

Tone and neutrality issues abound in this article - word such as "disastrous", "farce", "against all the odds", "unfortunately", "superbly", "woefully", "paltry", "long-overdue", "drubbing", "excellent", "storming" etc. fail either one or both of these criteria. Qwghlm 15:34, 26 November 2006 (UTC)

Indeed. Well I've done a little on the pre-war period. No idea where citations are going to come from for all those random points though! aLii 00:00, 20 December 2006 (UTC)

Why was the history removed? HunterLionheart 17:50, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Lancashire Evening Post

Hey Tangerine mate stop taking the Lancashire Evening Post link off. It is not "spam" but a legitimate link to a newspaper website that offers comprehensive coverage of PNE's activities. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.177.111.207 (talkcontribs) 15:58, 27 July 2007

Perhaps you need to look at the article and my last edit? Adding a general link to a newspaper site is a spam external link, like it or not. See Wikipedia:Spam#External link spamming. I had though already added, before your message, a direct link to the PNE section of the LEP online which is what external links are for, and which is way more appropriate and easier to read. ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 15:02, 27 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] A minor problem

I would like to point out a minor problem with regards to the FA template shown above. When I click show the date is shown as November 2007. But when I click edit to this talk-page, the date is shown as November 2006. I just cannot comprehend this anomaly. Does anyone have any answers with regards to this? The template should be fixed but I do not know how. This is indeed a bit strange as well. --Siva1979Talk to me 18:53, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi. It comes up fine for me? I just clicked on show and this came up:

Not sure why it shows 2007 for you though? ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 19:00, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

I just had a look, and it shows 2007 for me in Firefox, I will now check IE. And yes when I edit it shows 2006. Phgao 19:02, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, IE and now FF both show the correct 2006, you may need to Clear the Cache, or refresh the page in the browser. It does seem strange it showed 2007 first for me too, but now is 2006. Hope I helped. Phgao 19:04, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
This is indeed strange! When I click show again, the date is November 2007! I think there is something wrong with my browser. I am using Firefox. --Siva1979Talk to me 19:06, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Hmmm, and just to add to the "strangeness" I just clicked on show again, and it now shows November 2007 for me too! How very odd! ♦Tangerines♦·Talk 19:13, 2 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok this is very strange, i see 2007 again, I think you could ask on [1]? Phgao 20:42, 2 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Recent edits

An IP user keeps adding the following into the article:

"Simpson never had a good relationship with the Preston supporters and even blamed them for the bad run of form before turning on the match day announcer and bizarrely blaming the team's poor performance on his choice of pre match music."

The IP user has now reverted my removal of the content stating that it was "due to unwarranted editing". I should point out that the above edit is against a few wikipedia guidelines and policies and it will keep being removed if it is added in the above format. It was not "unwarranted editing" it was removing content that is against wikipedia policies and guidelines. Firstly, it cites no source whatsoever. Content needs to be sourced, especially so when discussing an individual and even more so when making critical comments about that person. In addition it breaks the NPOV policy and is quite clearly a personal comment. If a fully verifiable third party reliable source can be found, and used to support anything mentioned in the edit then by all means add it beack in, but not in the format above. There is for instance, an article in the LEP entitled, "Elvis banned from Deepdale" from August 2007, and that can be used.

I have repeatedly removed vandalism from this article, particularly from so called Blackpool fans, and I will continue to do so. However, the whole article is in need of some work as it has at present just one source.♦Tangerines♦·Talk 17:12, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
