Pretty the Quick Black Eyes (PTQBE) is an Austin, Texas based group formed by former Mineral (band) guitarist Scott-David McCarver and Joshua Merritt. The group first performed on July 4, 2002 as an opening act for The Gloria Record. Soon after, PTQBE recorded their EP with Rory Phillips (the Impossibles) in Austin, TX. In November 2002, PTQBE released their debut self titled EP. The band reportedly has a full-length studio album in the works[citation needed], with as many as 10 previously unrecorded tracks dating to the time of their last shows, as well as several new songs written by the band in 2006 and 2007.

[edit] Live performances
Although not currently playing live, the band was at one time active primarily in and around Austin, TX. Notable shows included appearances with Cursive, The Fiery Furnaces, Elephant, The Jealous Sound, and Denali. No live performances have happened in the last two years, although with talk of a new studio album rumors of corresponding live performances have occasionally surfaced without confirmation.[citation needed]
[edit] Studio equipment
Scott David McCarver began PTQBE playing high-end arch-top Hamer guitars, a carry-over from his Mineral days. As of the last PTQBE shows around 2005 he was playing Gibson Les Paul's. He played in PTQBE with two guitar cabinets (one stage left and one stage right), presumably for the stereo effect.
