[edit] Tensionwood

Tensionwood is a tissue formed in hardwood xylem to support and bend stem and branch at destenated direction.

Main characteristic is a Geratinous layer(G-layer) of innermost layer of the cell walls of fibers. Geratinous layer is characterized by non lignified cellulose layer in that, the cellulose microfibrils runs pallalel to the cell long axis.

This tissue produces tension force in and after the process of maturation, the mechanisms of this shrinkage of G-layer is yet known. Artificial induction of this tissue have beed done only by the disturbance of the direction of branches, or stem leaning. No chemical induction have not been atteined.

Just wondering if there should be separate categories "Plant anatomy" and "Plant morphology" or a joint category "Plant anatomy and morphology". Brya 08:54, 27 September 2005 (UTC)

Really, there is no sense in having two overlapping (or even synonymous) categories! My proposal is to merge them. Kaarel 19:59, 3 March 2006 (UTC)
