To me, it seems that a great deal of these names are from the arabic language:

  1. hadi
  2. sajjad
  3. bagher: a Shiite Imam
  4. sadegh: a Shiite Imam
  5. jafar: a Shiite Imam
  6. akbar: Great in Arabic
  7. abbas: The name of one of the early Caliphs
  8. abol-fazl: The brother of Imam Hussain
  9. zeynab(Female): Another member of the Imam family
  10. khadijeh(F): The name of the Prophet Muhammad's wife

Now some persian names are:

  1. Setareh
  2. Xerxes
  3. Keeyanoosh

etc.

A lot of Arabic names are listed because they ARE used as Iranian personal names. That is because of the Islamic conquest of Iran. Therefore, they should be kept on the list, as they are used in Iran. Shining oblivion 06:11, 21 April 2006 (UTC)Shining oblivion

[edit] Redundant

This article is pretty much redundant given the existence of the article List of Persian given names, unless I'm missing something. Has this article got something that the other article hasn't? --Popeyedoyle 23:40, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Persian Names and Names used by Persians

I think we should merge the two articles. However, I suggest to list all names used by Persians but somehow distinctly tag the name with pure Persian origins.

[edit] Pre-Secularization Names

Persian names prior to Reza Shah's secularization were very different. I've found some good notes on their form and style and think that they should go in here. I'll keep a disambiguation link to the "List" article and get the current crop of articles that link here to go there directly. MARussellPESE 01:52, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Surname suffixes

It should be explained what common Persian surname suffixes like "-pour" and "-ian" mean. Badagnani 02:51, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
