TV.com summary

Pelswick is a 2000 animated television series produced by Nelvana for CBC Television in Canada and the Nickelodeon cable channel in the United States. The series, about a teenage boy who uses a wheelchair, emphasized how he lived a normal life and was based on the books created by John Callahan. Currently, it is no longer airing except on Latin America on the children's cable channel ZAZ. FUNimation, a DVD distributor for the United States, considered releasing Pelswick on DVD in 2004, but plans fell through due to a low fan base. It aired on Nick on CBS on September 7, 2002, then ended in November the same year.

[edit] Characters

  • Pelswick Eggert (voiced by Robert Tinkler) - A 13 year old with a big nose who is in a wheelchair and has a guardian angel. He dislikes people regarding him different because of his disability.
  • Ace Nakamura (voiced by Phil Guerrero) - Pelswick's friend. Ace is technologically smarter than any of his friends, leading him often to be the thinker of the situation.
  • Goon Gunderson (voiced by Peter Oldring) - Pelswick's friend. Huge and notably slow-witted in his actions and thoughts, Goon is generally good-hearted.
  • Julie Smockford (voiced by Julie Lemieux) - The girl on whom Pelswick has a crush.
  • Sandra Scottle (voiced by Kim Kuhteubl) - Julie's best friend and often rival. She is a true diva.
  • Mr. Jimmy (voiced by David Arquette) - Pelswick's guardian angel who often gives him advice that confuses him until the last moment, no matter what it is.
  • Kate (voiced by Tracey Moore) - Pelswick's eight-year old sister who tries to act beyond her age.
  • Bobby - Pelswick's and Kate's baby brother.
  • Quentin (voiced by Tony Rosato) - Pelswick's, Kate's, and Bobby's dad.
  • Mirlyon - Pelswick's, Kate's, and Bobby's mom who is mentioned in the series but does not appear (thought to be dead).
  • Gram-Gram (Priscilla) (voiced by Ellen Ray Hennessy) - Pelswick's, Kate's, and Bobby's grandmother. She often does "extreme" acts beyond that of a grandmother.
  • Boyd Scolarzo (voiced by Chuck Campbell) - The bully of Pelswick's school who likes bullying Pelswick.
  • Agnes - Boyd's adventurous grandmother, and a friend of Priscilla's. Priscilla and Agnes often have their own subplots in later episodes.

[edit] Trivia

  • The United States Nickelodeon network, which has gained a reputation for airing episodes of shows long after other countries have already aired them, actually aired the episode "Kick Me Kate" before CBC did.
  • The episode "It Must Be the Shoes" aired 2/3 of a time in the USA. Normally skipped by Nicktoons network, it aired once, but for whatever reason, the episode stopped after the second commercial break (when the boys on the basketball team are forced to stop playing at halftime of their game because all of them failed chemistry). It is possible that there was some music issue involved, as the story also involved Julie and Sandra putting on "a musical version of Charles Dickens" as a cover for practicing for a girls' basketball team.
