Defending the West: A Critique of Edward Said's Orientalism is a book written by scholar and thinker Ibn Warraq.

The book argues against Edward Said's thesis in Orientalism, which, argues Warraq, has been used by Said's followers in an effort to block critical studies of the Islamic world and its history. Ibn Warraq argues that Said misrepresents the work of many scholars, and charges his work with inadequate methodology, tendentious arguments, and a faulty historical understanding.[1] Ibn Warraq also attempts to show how Said's supporters have used his arguments to remove thousands of works of art, particularly Western painting of the 19th century, from major museums.
