[edit] Subpages

Post your Comments about my subpages here.

[edit] User:PatPeter\Prentice Hall Chemistry

It was an incorrectly-titled subpage. Subpages are created using forward slashes ( / ), not backslashes ( \). I moved the page to User:PatPeter/Prentice Hall Chemistry, the correct title. Awyong J. M. Salleh 00:08, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

Well, thank you then, I did not know you moved it. -23PatPeter* 00:51, 26 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] "Wikiprojects" in your user subspace

I've removed the title overrides that made your subpages look like WikiProjects, User:PatPeter/Wikiproject:Source to Short,[1] and User:PatPeter/Wikiproject:Category Cleanup.[2] Why were you using these title overrides? coelacan — 00:27, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I have permission to use these title overrides do I not? Do not touch my subpages again you have no permission, if you had asked without being rude I would tell you but otherwise I will not. -PatPeter 00:57, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I don't understand what you mean about permission. Did someone tell you to do this? coelacan — 01:02, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Okay, since you haven't answered: no, I do not believe you can use category overrides to make your user subspace appear to be a Wikiproject, and it seems to me that if I cannot convince you otherwise, the simplest route would be to nominate these pages for deletion if there is no further response from you. coelacan — 02:40, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
You said right there that you weren't going to answer me, I asked again at 01:01 for some clarification; you started editing again at 02:09 and didn't answer. I figured it was reasonable to believe that you weren't going to answer, since that's what you said. I asked again and just said if there wasn't any answer I wouldn't know any other route except deletion, and I waited further for your response, which you gave now. At no point did I actually nominate them for deletion, but rather I gave you notice of my intention. I don't think this was rude.
As to the actual matter of the title overrides, you are going around telling people that "per WP:StS" they need to do something, when in fact that redirect goes to your userspace which looks like a Wikiproject. I believe this is extremely misleading, and I believe you need to take down the title overrides so that it is not so misleading, as well as stop telling people to do things per some proposal you have made in your userspace. coelacan — 03:20, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I agree that it is inappropriate for you to give your user subpages the appearance of Wikipedia project pages- this is highly misleading to users you direct there. On a related matter, I have listed the redirects WP:CGC and WP:StS at RfD. Feel free to contribute to the discussion. WjBscribe 07:04, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] your "Wikiproject Source-to-Short"

Why are you doing this?[3] What is the purpose of rearranging people's user pages and then telling them they need to keep their pages "short"? coelacan — 21:20, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

Er, indeed why? And furthermore can you explain Per Wikipedia:Wikiproject Source to Short I have changed your sourced userboxes into subpages. Spurring readon: Your userpage is in Bood fan user templates category. Sounds fascinating and indeed slightly risky. The Boy that time forgot 21:49, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I think you're using up more space on the servers by leaving those notes everywhere than you're "saving" by putting their userboxes in their subpages. And it's certainly not worth the stress that it causes people when you're acting like they've done something "wrong" and they haven't. It's also unnecessarily bureaucratic, and it amounts to instruction creep. You don't have any grounds for going around leaving these messages which amount to "per my private wikiproject, I have changed your page to suit my preferences", and I kindly request that you stop. coelacan — 21:57, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

PatPeter, perhaps for the moment would you consider just removing Category:User templates from people's pages and leave it at that? I agree that this much is helpful. It might be advisable to rework your messages to users, though, and your "Rules" could use a little less WP:BITE. coelacan — 23:51, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
Dear PatPeter, I will try to answer your questions but first can I say that I find your approach quite confrontational, reading the comments posted above by coeLacan I find myself agreeing with his sentiments.
Firstly, I was not aware that I had unnessessarily put my userpage in Category:Book fan user templates, that's my fault and I apologise.
Secondly, I wasn't aware that it's not permitted to copy userboxes, didn't know it wastes space and wouldn't know a transclusion if it bit me.
Finally, Why, if these userboxes are your own work, wouldn't they be in subpages so that other users can use them?. I don't know, I really don't know. Some of them are my own work, the others quite patently aren't. I don't know what a subpage is. I shall do my best to be very much more careful in future, userboxes eh, who would've thought it.
Oh yeah, any chance of an explanation for your statement, ''Per Wikipedia:Wikiproject Source to Short I have changed your sourced userboxes into subpages. Spurring readon: Your userpage is in Bood fan user templates category. Particularly the Spurring readon.....bit. Thanks. The Boy that time forgot 22:15, 5 April 2007 (UTC)

I see. If you thought that there was something wrong with my user page maybe it would have been better to let me know, a message on my talk page before editing would have done the trick. I happen to like the way that it was laid out and the only way I can see to get it back is to revert your edits. I understand that you are trying to improve things but I think your approach is unnecessarily confrontational, particularly to those who aren't aufait with the more technical aspects of wikipedia. Could you take the time to explain, in plain language, the reasons behind your userbox related purge? Thanks. The Boy that time forgot 23:12, 5 April 2007 (UTC)
