Pancreas divisum is a congenital anomaly in which the ventral and dorsal pancreatic buds fail to fuse in the embryo. The main pancreatic duct may become stenotic, predisposing the idividual to development of chronic pancreatitis. This anomaly accounts for 12% of all cases of chronic pancreatitis and is most often seen in children.
