Panjera

Panjera is a historic town of District Kotli Azad Kahsmir situated at Kotli Pullandary road about 18 Km from Kotli city in the west.

Panjera town was burnt when a rebelious movement against the Dogra Raj in 1947 was initiated.

Panjera is a central point of areas such as Shahpur, Odhay, Chak, Nully, Siah,Gangnara, Takya Syedan, Kainee,Dahra,Adradh and Talhyaan etc.

People are of tribal nature. Rajputs, Jaats,Suddhans, Syeds,Awans and of other tribes reside here. The area is influenced by the Potohaar culture. Pothohaari poetry is very popular and folk festivals provide opportunity to arrange the functions of potohaari poetry artists.

Panjera Valley is full of beauty with streams, waterfalls and forests. People cultivate wheat and maize. Goat rearing and buffalo are also popular in the area. Panjera town is very progressive in economic context due to its catchment area. Fruit trees like Citrus, Guava, mulbery, apricot are grown.

There is a network of link roads that have recently been laid down which has made the area more progressive.

There is a boys and girls college and more than five public schools at Panjera providing the energetic and educated young generation to the country. There are famous Dargahs (soofi's astaanas) and religious festivals are often arranged where horse racing and Kabaddi are the main events. from 2 miles of panjera,s town a place call pandkari where raja Razzaq khan son of Raja Riast khan bulid a very big Hospitial,free dispensary and a jamhia massjid for the welfair of people.

A very interesting thing about Panjera is the huge population of bats living on the trees of an old orchad. They are in thousands, spend their days on these trees and start their journey to North in evening in search of temperate fruits. (By Riaz Sultan)
