[edit] Treatment for Paget-Schroetter syndrome

Current recommendations for treatment of Paget-Schroetter syndrome (effort thrombosis, venous thoracic outlet/inlet syndrome) is venography with dissolution of clot as soon as possible with catheter directed thrombectomy and/or thrombolysis (clot dissolving medications). Once the clot is dissolved and function to the vein restored, the underlying cause can sometimes be identified with surgery potentially performed to resolve the underlying anatomic cause. After clot dissolution, patients are maintained on anticoagulation (heparin followed by coumadin typically).
