Owen Kavanagh is one of the increasing number of players originally from Kildare in the Kildare County squad. He joined Kldare County under 18 team after a successful trial and won the Kildare County under 18 player of the year in 2005. He was also promoted to the senior squad and made his senior debut as a sub against Cobh Ramblers in October 2006 before making his full debut for the Thoroughbreds in a 2-2 draw with Athlone Town at Station Road on October 26th. 2006. To date he has made 27 appearances for the club scoring once. Owen was a member of the Under 21 Kildare County team that was defeated by Cork City in the Enda McGuill Cup final. He joins Paul Rigney, Matt Rigney, John Flynn, Colin Osbourne, Mark Gibson, Barry Slattery , Paddy Mahon and Carl Donnelly in making his senior debut for KIldare County in the 2006 season.
He signed a new contract after the 2007 season with Kildare County keeping him at the club for the 2008 season.
