Matt Rigney is the younger brother of Kildare County midfielder Paul Rigney. Like his brothet he too was a member of the losing Kildare County Under-21 team in the Enda Mc Guill Cup in the 2006 season. He made two substitute appearances for the Kildare County senior team during the 2006 season the first against Cobh Ramblers in a 1-0 defeat on the 28 October.
