[edit] Requested move
Ostroh → Ostrih — The name Ostrih is the Official name of the city in Ukrainian and is always spelled that way. Also, English sources such as the Encyclopedia of Ukraine, use Ostrih instead of Ostroh. --Boguslav (talk) 02:12, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Survey
- Support as nom. --Boguslav (talk) 02:16, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oppose per non-existant use of Ostrih. First of all Ostrih is an archaic Ukrainian spelling similar to Luhanske, Mukacheve, Konotip and even the incorrect Sevastopil. etc. The Encyclopedia of Ukraine for reasons that can only be interpreted as STUPID uses the old version that disappeared in the numerous reforms of Ukrainian orthography during the 1930s. The only known case of when the old spelling was re-introduced was Rivne, but not Ostroh. See Talk:Mukachevo for more details.--Kuban Cossack 14:45, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Discussion
- The city's official name according to the Verkhovna Rada website, is Острог (Ostroh).[1] Google results are as follows: 18,400 for Ostroh compared to 1,930 for Ostrih. —dima/talk/ 02:35, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- The uk-wiki also uses Ostroh name (although it includes "Ostrih" in parentheses).--Riurik(discuss) 18:11, 22 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sorry, I didn't research this enough. Can I remove the move request? --Boguslav (talk) 18:03, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
