Onochie Achike

Onochie Achike, known as Larry, born on January 31, 1975 in the London borough of Islington to Nigerian parents, is an English athlete. A former rugby player, he eventually specialized in triple jump and won the gold medal at the 1998 Commonwealth Games. He placed 5th in the 2000 Olympic Games, setting a new personal best of 17.30 during the contest. He competed at the 2006 European Championships but failed to qualify for the final. His club is Shaftesbury Barnet Harriers in North London.

Achike has a cult following of hard core athletics lovers, he is held in high esteem alongside carl myerscough, people often recall his memorable performance in the 2000 olympics where he had red hair, unfortunatley he did not bring the gold back, but he did have red hair. Along with this Achike has inspired two school pupils in Leicester and has inspired them to follow in his footsteps. Both of these boys regard Achike as their hero.
