One Bright Shining Moment

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

One Bright Shining Moment: The Forgotten Summer of George McGovern is a 2005 documentary directed by Stephen Vittoria. It chronicles the unsuccessful 1972 presidential campaign of progressive Democrat George McGovern.

Narrated by Amy Goodman, with appearances by such luminaries as famous historian Howard Zinn, author Gore Vidal, former presidential candidate Gary Hart, and George McGovern himself, the film asks the question "what if?". Where would America be today if McGovern had won the presidency in 1972? For many, McGovern's campaign and defeat were a pivotal event in American politics.
