[edit] Policy on mentioning productions

Hi there

I'm completely new to this Wikipedia editing thing so please forgive my ignorance. I have added a small edit to the Productions section of the 'Oliver!" page mentioning a production of the show in Cambridge this year. I've done this before and it's been removed, not sure why. If it's because this could be classed as advertising I can't really see why the West End revival, which is also in this section, is left in there, isn't this advertising? Anyway, if it's not for that reason and someone takes offense please can you let me know why.

Thanks

Andrew,
The WP:MUSICALS Article Structure says the following about productions:

Only professional productions should be included in this section, following the conditions set in WP:NOTABILITY. Amateur productions will be deleted without discussion.

From what I can see on the Corn Exchange website, this production is by "the area's finest amateur cast". That means it doesn't achieve the notability criteria. Sorry about that. It's not so much about advertising as about making sure the content of Wikipedia is encyclopaedic. If it were to list every amateur production of Oliver!, the article would be very, very long and the "proper", notable, encyclopaedic information would get lost.
I hope that answers your question about why I removed it - any more, give me a shout. -- Dafyd (talk) 21:08, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
