Talk:Oldham Athletic A.F.C.
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Can whoever keeps changing the 1923 to 1940 and 1946 to 1970 subsections PLEASE stop doing so. See the posted link which verifies that Oldham were relegated in 1935 and not 1950 as is continually incorrectly asserted. http://www.nelsonfc.com/footydb/loadlgt.asp?divno=13&ssnno=64. Also, Oldham DID NOT reach the FA Cup semi-final in 1930. If you're going to change things, at least provide some evidence!
Someone has changed it again! Please stop it!

[edit] Royton
Can all editors please be mindful that Royton is in the Metropolitan Borough of Oldham, rather than Oldham (they even have two seperate articles showing the difference).
I know that we write the address as Royton, Oldham... but Wikipedia is an encyclopedia rather than an address label, where statements should phrased in a more academic prose. Jhamez84 00:00, 2 July 2006 (UTC)
[edit] A note on British English
British English should be used for articles on Britain related topics. Likewise, American English should be used on articles pertaining to American topics. For a clearer example, please visit this sub-section on the differences between their usage. However, is" works better than "are" with the term club as it is a singular and not a plural noun. (Compare with the word team which is a plural noun) --Siva1979Talk to me 17:48, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Stop adding Fake Players.
People keep adding fake players to the squad, please stop.
Jonas Andre Berg is not even real.
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:Oldham.gif
Image:Oldham.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 04:43, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Meaning of AFC
I notice that the club's full title, 'Oldham Athletic Football Club' doesn't abbreviate to the page's title, 'Oldham Athletic A.F.C.'. According to the club's official website, the club's full name is actually 'Oldham Athletic Association Football Club', so the abbreviation is correct but the name as it appears in full on this page is incomplete. I think there should at least be consistency between the full and abbreviated names. However, on behalf of non-aficionados of footie like myself, may I also suggest it would be helpful to have a brief description (or link?) explaining what the term 'AFC' means. Hope this helps. [edit] Is it a joke?
"The club found its way into the ownership of Marketing Manager Sean Jarvis and club accountant Neil Joy who purchased the club for £1 in an effort to keep the club running." £1? That means i can afford to buy that club as well —Preceding unsigned comment added by Orientalknight (talk • contribs) 19:32, 14 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] History split
I think that the History section is far to big, and would be better on a separate page, with a more concise history on the Oldham Athletic A.F.C. page. Dancarney (talk) 10:24, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
- I've been thinking that for quite some time, but I just wasn't sure of when to make the seperations and such. crassic![talk] 14:37, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
