I added about the previous name of the Rayon as well as it's Armenian spelling.Hetoum I 03:24, 30 August 2007 (UTC)

I fixed incorrect quote from the source, which claimed that Azeris expelled Udis from the district, while Udis still live there. In fact, the source quoted by Vartan says:
About half of the population at the time was Christian (Armenian and Udins), and the other half was Muslim. In the 1860s, a total of 190 Jewish families lived in Vartashen. Following a conflict in the late l980s, the Azerbaijanis expelled the Armenians from Vartashen and changed the name of the village to Oguz.
The edit replacing Armenians with Udis was made by anon: [1] This was a part of forceful population exchange between the two countries that took place in many locations in Armenia and Azerbaijan and does not even deserve mentioning here, as this happened almost everywhere in the region, and this location is not special.
