The 4000 series (4000形 Yonsen gata?) is a commuter EMU operated by the Odakyū Electric Railway in Japan.
The first train was delivered in May 2007, and the trains entered service in September 2007 on inter-running services between Odakyū and the Tōkyō Metro Chiyoda Line, displacing 1000 series sets, which will be cascaded to surface lines to replace older 5000 and 5200 series sets. A total of 70 vehicles (formed as seven 10-car sets) are on order.
The trains are based on the JR East E233 series EMU design but with narrow bodies to permit subway running. The traction motors are fully-enclosed (as on the 50000 series VSE sets) to reduce environmental noise.
