Oban Airport (IATA: OBN, ICAO: EGEO) is located at the village of North Connel, Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It is a small airport, and is not currently used for commercial aviation.
However, in 2006, the airport's operators, Argyll and Bute Council established plans to operate commercial flights between Oban and three remote island communities, Coll, Colonsay and Tiree. As such, the council have began to upgrade the airport to handle flights, and a terminal building is currently under construction. The council's plan is to have flights from Glasgow International Airport and Edinburgh Airport operate to Oban, and onwards to the three islands[1].

[edit] Incidents
In April 2007, 3 people were killed after their light aircraft crashed after take-off from the airport. Their destination was Essex.
[edit] Controversy
There has been a lot of controversy about the running of the airport by Argyll and Bute Council, mainly conducted in the letters and news pages of the Oban Times. It is claimed that costs have soared and the amount of traffic dropped since the takeover[2]. Also there are claims that the airport fire appliance was sabotaged[3].
