Nizhneangarsk (Russian: Нижнеангарск) is an urban-type settlement in the Buryat Republic, Russia and the administrative center of the Severo-Baykalsky District. Nizhneangarsk is located on the shore of Lake Baikal, 23 km (14 mi) km north of Severobaykalsk. The settlement was founded in 1643 by the Russian explorer Semen Skorokhod. The setllement was initially, since the construction of a fort by Vasily Kolesnik in 1646, named Verkhneangarsk. Nizhneangarsk is the location of the Nizhneangarsk Airport, with flights to Ulan-Ude and Irkutsk.
