In 2006, Newsweek's annually "America's Best High Schools" ranking rated Niskayuna High School as the 792nd best High School in the United States, with an index (total Advanced Placement Exams taken in 2005 divided by total number of graduating seniors) of 1.260.[1] Niskayuna High School was a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence in 1983.
For the Class of 2005, 94% of all graduating seniors attended college after graduating from Niskayuna.[2]

- Jeff Blatnick, a wrestler who won a gold medal in the 1984 Summer Olympics and is currently a Distinguished Member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame and Museum.[3]
- Andy Bloom, an Olympic athlete competing in the shot put.[4]
- Kevin Burns, American TV Director
- André Davis, a current wide receiver for the Houston Texans (traded from the Buffalo Bills on April 12, 2007) in the NFL.
- James Howe, prominent author of children's literature.
- Ron Rivest, a cryptographer and MIT Computer Science professor, most famous for his part in the development of the RSA algorithm, for which he and his co-developers won a Turing Award.
- Jillian Shanebrook, who became a well-known model in Indonesia and wrote Model: Life Behind the Makeup.[5][6]
- Elizabeth Rosner, popular fiction writer, author of The Speed of Light[7]
