Nick Moorcroft

Nick Moorcroft (born 22 December 1979, Chelmsford, Essex is an English screenwriter.

He was expelled from Gosfield School in Halstead, Essex. After a short spell of home tutoring, Rainsford School finally accepted him but he left without any qualifications. He then won a scholarship from Essex County Council to study acting at the Webber Douglas Academy Of Dramatic Art in Chelsea, London, after his mum encouraged him to audition. Subsequently he produced and appeared in Jonathan Stratford's play The Gary Oldman Fanclub which was staged at The Man In The Moon Theatre, Kings Road, London, in 1998. It was here that he was encouraged by renowned playwright and screenwriter, Barrie Keeffe, to try his hand at writing.

In 2004 he sold his first spec screenplay to Barnaby Thompson's Fragile Films. The period comedy called Burke and Hare is about two Irish serial killers who sold the corpses of their 17 victims to the Edinburgh Medical College for dissection and was included on the Brit List: 2007. This is a most liked and recommended list of unproduced screenplays, voted for by senior members of the British and Irish film industry.

In 2006 he penned the screenplay St Trinian's, a film based on the cartoons by legendary British cartoonist, Ronald Searle, for Ealing Studios.

The £8 million production, which stars Rupert Everett, Colin Firth, Talulah Riley, Gemma Arterton,Mischa Barton, Stephen Fry,Russell Brand, Toby Jones was filmed in March 2007 and[[ goes on general release in the U.K from December 21, 2007.

He is currently writing St Trinian's 2 for Ealing Studios and Dick Turpin for Leftbank Pictures (Nov 2007).
