Nicholas Henri of France, duc d'Orléans, was the second son and fourth child of Henry IV of France and his Italian Queen Marie de' Medici. As a Fils de France, he bore the name of de France.

[edit] Life

Nicholas Henri (sometimes just Nicholas de France) was born at the Château de Fontainebleau on April 16 (or April 13) 1607 and died on November 17, 1611 at the Château de Saint-Germain-en-Laye. [edit] Prince without a Name

He was known as Monsieur d'Orléans or the Prince sans nom (prince without name) until the family, the House of Bourbon, could come up with a name and was then called Nicholas Henri at his baptism. A year after his birth in 1608, his youngest brother was born. He was called Gaston de France and was titled as duc d'Anjou as was customary for the third son.

Nicholas Henri died at the age of four as a result of an elpileptic attack. The title of duc d'Orléans reverted back to the crown and was later given to his brother who outlived him for another four decades.
