[edit] Route description

[edit] Oneida County

Once in Oneida County, NY 46 parallels the abandoned Old Erie Canal. A towpath is visible on the opposite side.

In Rome, NY 46 overlaps almost every other state route to enter the city at some point. Once out of Rome, NY 46 follows the upper sections of the Mohawk River, passing by a fish hatchery as well as Delta Lake State Park. Beyond Delta Lake, NY 46 parallels the Black River, together with the defunct Black River Canal. Many abandoned locks are still present along the canal, and on the opposite side, the old towpath serves as a cross-country ski trail.

NY 46 enters as Post St. as it enters the village of Boonville. Immediately after intersecting with NY 294, NY 46 ends at NY 12D.
