Neville Staple
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Neville Staple (born 11 April 1956,[citation needed] Christiana, Jamaica) was a roadie-turned-singer for the second-wave ska band, The Specials. His deep baritone voice often added the punch phrases and spoken "skats" to counterpoint the melodies. Staple's on-stage antics, combined with his dreadlocked hair, often dominated their concerts.
When The Specials first split up he, along with Terry Hall and Lynval Golding, formed Fun Boy Three. Staple now does solo work and lives in the U.S. In the late 1990s, Staple joined Ranking Roger from The Beat to form Special Beat, a revival group playing hits from both former two-tone bands. He was also featured on the song "Explosive" by the third-wave ska band, The Planet Smashers.
In 2006 Staple toured the UK with a new backing band. He has a daughter; Sheena Staple, who currently lives in the U.S., who is working on a solo album; and a son Darren Simms who is the lead singer in a U.S. reggae / rock band named "DreadStarr".
Neville Staple currently gigs around the UK as The Neville Staple Band. His backing band features former members of British ska bands Big 10, Bad Manners and Eskalator. His current band consists of Wazza Trombone. Sledge bass. Andy Guitar. Joey keyboards and Pat drums.
