[edit] Suggestion

Shouldn't this article and College World Series be merged? The College World Series is essentially the culmination of the NCAA Division I Baseball Championship. In comparison, Final Four redirects to NCAA Division I Basketball Championship and this is an analogous situation. DandyDan2007 23:46, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

I agree that it should be merged, however, I also think that we should rename all of the individual College World Series pages to something like 2006 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament. I've always wanted to do it but never had the motivation. The individual pages, however, only document the CWS part of the tournament. I think they should document the entire tournament like the NCAA pages. (See: 2006 NCAA Men's Division I Basketball Tournament) Thoughts? Seancp 14:54, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
I went ahead and got started on the first switchover. I chose to create a new page for the 2000 tournament because, well, I'm an LSU fan and they won it all that year. Link: 2000 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament I'd like for the regionals section to show a tournament bracket just like the CWS section, but I can't find a 4 team double elimination bracket template, nor can I find all of the individual game results from the regionals. The best resource I have for this info is here: http://www.tfn.net/~jcarr/Baseball/. Does anyone know where I can find a 4 team double elimination bracket template? That would be great. I'd also like to get to work on cleaning up the page. It's a bit messy. I'd like to have one excellent looking example for others to follow when editing/creating pages on the baseball tournament. More to come, stay tuned. Seancp 19:45, 31 January 2007 (UTC)
Nevermind, I figured out that I can use the CWSBracket template for the rest of the tournament as well. No need for a 4 team double elimination bracket. Seancp 20:17, 31 January 2007 (UTC)

Here's the template listing all individual pages:

NCAA Division I Men's College World Series
1940s 1947 1948 1949
1950s 1950 1951 1952 1953 1954 1955 1956 1957 1958 1959
1960s 1960 1961 1962 1963 1964 1965 1966 1967 1968 1969
1970s 1970 1971 1972 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979
1980s 1980 1981 1982 1983 1984 1985 1986 1987 1988 1989
1990s 1990 1991 1992 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998 1999
2000s 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 2008 2009

I think there's some merit to keeping them separate; the CWS has a distinct identity, partially based on its continuous location. There are separate articles for the World Series and the playoffs which lead up to it, so this isn't completely unique. (And you'd still need separate articles for Div. II and III.) MisfitToys 22:14, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

I understand what you mean, and I don't really have a problem with having separate articles for the CWS. I guess we could have an article that documented all of the regional and super regional activity, and then in the CWS section, just link to the main page. For instance: have an article called 2000 NCAA Division I Baseball Tournament and an article called 2000 College World Series. Let the first one document all the action leading up to the CWS and then link to the CWS article. Is this an acceptable solution? I could go either way with it. I see the benefit in both and wouldn't object to either solution. Seancp 22:47, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
I think that's a good solution; there are a lot of games to cover each year in the CWS alone, unless we want just a bracket and no summaries, etc. The articles for the 2003 to 2005 CWS are already pretty sizable without the preliminary rounds, and they haven't even gotten into game summaries yet. MisfitToys 23:57, 2 February 2007 (UTC)
Well, I went ahead and created pages for every CWS year for which there wasn't already a page. Check the template above for links. I went ahead and created a template for the pre-CWS tournament as well. See below. I've already got individual articles for the 1947, 1948 and 2000 tournaments. This will be a slow process in creating these pages, so if anyone wants to help then please do. I can give you the links with all the relevant info upon request. Seancp 01:48, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

This information was added to the main page. Since I don't yet know how to include this information, I cut and paste it here until I can figure out a neat way to include it. Whoever added this information, could you please provide me with a link to more info so that I can document it? Thanks for the assistance! Seancp 23:57, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Correction: Yes, there were preliminary rounds. Example:

1950 NCAA playoffs (not managed by the NCAA, but by district colleges).

District 1 and 2 did not have playoffs.
Tufts (15-4) and Rutgers (16-3)were selected by
committee.

District 3 had their usual 4 team playoff.
June 9 Alabama 6-1 Clemson; Wake Forest 9-4 Kentucky
June 10 Alabama 3-2 Wake Forest; Kentucky 4-2
Clemson
Wake Forest defeated Kentucky (score not found)
June 11 Alabama 5-4 Wake Forest

The other districts had best 2 of 3 playoffs.
Dist. 4 According to the Midamerican conference media guide,
the playoffs were single elimination June 9&10.

Ohio 4-2 W Mich; Wisconsin 13-6 Mich State
Wisconsin 5-4 Ohio

Dist. 5 Bradley 10-6, 8-4 Nebraska
Dist. 6 Texas 4-5,9-8,7-3
Dist. 7 Colorado A&M 8-2,9-5 Colorado State College
Dist. 8 Wash. State 3-2,6-5 Stanford

Colorado State College is now known as Northern Colorado and
Colorado A&M was later renamed Colorado State University.
